Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Tsarnaev maps

Hi, I can see the maps are (to be) deleted. I guess the fact that I created them in good faith does not help. :P

I was assuming that using a screenshot of a Google map and making the rest - the much bigger part - of it myself would be fair use (actually, both were accepted by some editor with reviewer rights). Wouldn't it be?

If it is not, how about making a similar map using OpenStreetMap?

Paris attack map

Hi Veggies, thanks for uploading File:Parisattacks.png. Have you consider preparing a version of the same map with the Stade de France as an inset? See this example from Le Monde. I think that would make it way more readable at a small scale (also consider the top image is used as a background on the WIkipedia apps). @DarTar: I have uploaded a divided version as File:November-2015-Paris-Attacks-Divided-Map.png. Let me know if this works for you. Personally, I prefer using the undivided version because it lets the reader see the city attacks in scale. Israeli-occupied zone inside of Syria

This registered user beat me to it, because I was going to ask the same question for an update of the first map, when I saw it in a Wikipedia article. The IDF controls the entire area within the Yellow Line, and that is why this map and the other map need to be updated. Please update it. ~2026-30140-86 (talk) 01:01, 24 May 2026 (UTC)

Hello Veggies,

The latest Israeli incursions should be shown in these two maps. Israel has occupied en:Beaufort Castle, Lebanon and has reached the outskirts of en:Nabatiyeh, both north of the Litani River. Israel is occupying more territory than the maps show, and beyond their originally designated "Yellow Line" objective.

You should update the two now obsolete maps, because Israel controls all territory within the "Yellow Line" (there are no "enclaves" within this zone not under Israeli control) and territory beyond it, such as the Beaufort Castle.
