Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Japanese logos

Hello,

Some Japanese logos might fall under COM:TOO#Japan and be allowed on Wikimedia Commons with the {{PD-textlogo}} template regardless of their copyright status.

If you think a logo is above the threshold of originality, it is best to open a regular deletion request rather than a speedy deletion request.

Which is more or less where I went with my reply. But "What are you even here for?" is about an inch from "Why don't you just go away?" undeletion followup

So my IP address is now blocked and I can't reply to your comment on my request for undeletion. My answer to your opposition is: I only log on to Wikimedia commons once every 2 or 3 weeks. I'm not going to be able to reply to something that is time sensitive. But besides "why didn't you do that, you should have known..." look, I made a fair argument. The picture was deleted for no good reason. So I missed this "window of opportunity", so what. Please consider my original request for undeletion. ALPHASKYYYXXX (talk) 02:00, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

Probably because I use various Wi-fi networks and VPNs. I'm homeless and rely on public Wifis at libraries and coffee shops, and use a VPN often because they're open unsecured networks. It seemed to just happen yesterday after I submitted a dispute for the deletion. Besides that, I would really appreciate it if my photo was restored. I'm sorry that I was not in the loop in a more timely manner - the email I have associated with my account is one of many emails I use and I don't check it more than once every week or two. I don't see why this photo should be excluded from all of the others in the same topic, like I said, look up "adult diaper" in the search field. Some of those photos are a joke compared to mine. @Whyiseverythingalreadyused: it's very possible for someone who is moving around to land at an IP that is blocked, especially if it is considered an open proxy. It's happened to me occasionally. - Jmabel ! talk 05:20, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
