Better quality of The Music Man poster

Hello! I uploaded File:The Music Man poster, 1957.jpg which I am pretty confident is PD to replace enwiki's photo and it's not horrific but it is still pretty compressed and has a watermark, both of which I imperfectly have tried to clean up a bit. Finnish Continuation War commemorative medals

I've been working through the Finnish army corps of the en:Continuation War (see e.g. en:Finnish III Corps (Continuation War) and en:Finnish VI Corps (Continuation War)). As far as I can tell, these units did not have dedicated shoulder patches (such as those used by e.g. en:X Corps (United States)) which makes it difficult to find good imagery for the infoboxes. What these corps have, instead, are commemorative crosses such as the Aunuksen risti of the VI Corps (as shown in this CC-BY-ND image) or the Pohjois-Vienan risti of the III Corps (shown in this CC-BY-ND image). Since the no derivatives licenses prevent me from using these otherwise excellent images, I'm asking for help in sourcing Commons-compatible versions. Hello! I edit a lot of pages related to the show Degrassi High. A few of the actors could do with better infobox images on their pages, and it happens that three of them are to appear at the upcoming COMICON in Toronto on March 19th; Pat Mastroianni, Stacie Mistysyn and Amanda Stepto. I've been looking for higher quality and updated images for these guys for months, so would somebody on this site who is already going with a camera be able to photograph these guys at the panel? Hi everyone. I'm currently working on an article about the South Korean musician LØREN on Wikipedia and I'd like to have some pics of him.

Power Rangers command

I'd like to request an image of the Power Rangers Command. In reality it a building "House of the Book" designed by architect w:Sidney Eisenshtat located at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute of the AJU Los Angeles, which has appeared in various film and television productions. Photos of Cochlear implant sound processors

Commons does not have photos of many models and brands of cochlear implant sound processors, and many of the photos that we do have on Commons are copyright violations and/or poor quality (ex, blurry, out of focus, low reslution). I would like to be able to have usable photos (ideally standalone photos of the external hardware on a blank background, like this example) of:

• Cochlear Nucleus Freedom (we need a standalone photo of one)
• Advanced Bionics Neptune (we have only a pic of one being worn during a marathon, but the device is barely visible)

Browntop millet (Brachiaria ramosa, syn. Urochloa ramosa), again

I previously made a request (Commons:File_requests/Archive/2022#Brachiaria_ramosa), which was helpfully answered by User:Pius and resulted in the uploading of File:Brachiaria ramosa from Ambanja, Madagascar.jpg. This is a good photo, but I think there are even more photos that could be uploaded for this species. On iNaturalist, there are several photos tagged with the CC BY license. Pius said that they were all under the unfree CC BY-NC/ND licenses, but that doesn't appear to be the case as far as I can see. Specifically, the photos under this observation by Sam Kieschnick and this observation by Douglas Goldman appear to be CC-BY-licensed, and some of them seem pretty illustrative. 70.172.194.25 18:04, 24 September 2022 (UTC)

5th century Artwork, Pawaya Gwalior Madhya Pradesh, India

Looking for this artwork. Every photo that I've found of this artwork is copyrighted. Especially need clear closeups of the veena-harp and the veena-lute. The artifact to photograph is housed at the Gujari Mahal, an archaeological museum in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. India.

Importance: this artwork has one of the clearest views of early Indian stringed instruments. The image is needed to help clarify India's contribution to music worldwide (through early development of lute and harp). On the English- language Wikipedia is needed for: Veena, Ancient vina, Arched harp (currently being written at w:User:Jacqke/bow harp, and History of lute-family instruments. Roman reliefs in the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts

The Budapest Museum of Fine Arts has three pieces of relief sculpture that come from an important Roman monument of the early empire celebrating the Battle of Actium. They were originally part of the collection of the first Duke of Alcala and the other surviving parts of the monument are in Spain (two pieces in Seville and several others in Cordoba). The three pieces in Budapest are this slab and these two smaller fragments. I wonder if there's contributor in Hungary who might be able to visit the museum and get photos of these pieces to upload to the commons. In addition to overall views, I'd like to request details of the small figures depicted on the tensa (the empty ritual chariot) in the larger relief. Short-track speed skating world cups

I would love for someone to cover the w:short-track speed skating world cup in Dresden (Germany) or Dordrecht (Netherlands) in February 2023.

I'm happy to help submit a grant request to Wikimedia to cover travel and housing costs (entrance at the event is usually free, but if not, happy to help with that too), and to sort through the photos before upload or during categorization.

I'm a terrible photographer and it's killing me that most pro skaters are either not illustrated on Wikipedia or illustrated with a blurry smartphone photo taken at an early 2010s competition. Place clearly allowing camping but has no infrastructure whatsoever

Ideal picture would be like https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:Camp_site_backcountry.jpg - clearly no infrastructure at all, clear language-independent marker of designated camping site. I am fine if it is just cropping and site has actual infrastructure not visible on photo.

So far https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Refuge_Cove,_Wilsons_Promontory_National_Park_12.jpg was found where this marker is not well-visible (previous search attempt was on and as of now better one was not found)

I would appreciate help if someone can take or find a better image (I tried searching on Flickr but failed to find anything like that)

Anyone got access to a library stocked with the Journal des Savants?

Oldest scientific journal in the world by some measures. The July 1817 issue is actually the source for the name of the Bonin Islands and came with a map, which Google's digitization unhelpfully botched. Gallica's missing the issue on their end. The most likely format would be this bound version of the issues Jan. 1816 to Dec. 1817, the first after the hiatus in publication during the Napoleonic Wars, but it was unhelpfully printed without a series number, volume number, or updated colophon. The original issues were all printed at the Royal Printing Office in Paris (A Paris, de l'Imprimerie Royale) and the bound version presumably came out in 1817, 1818, or thereabouts. (Google's version dates it to the first issue included, which is obviously wrong but be copied in any library system.)

In any case, it would be great to get a high resolution version of that map for use here and elsewhere around the net. Literally, there are books that have been published on the Bonins/Ogasawaras that have mentioned the map and then apologized for the inability to find a decent digitized copy of it for inclusion. It'd be nice if someone could fix that and then mention it on the various Bonin/Ogasawara talk pages around the project so it could be worked into the #Name, #History, or #Gallery sections. — LlywelynII 08:27, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi, everyone! I took an 8-day trip to Austin a couple of weeks ago and really liked the skyline, but I didn't get any really good photos of it with my iPhone 11, and my night pics were just blurs, so I deleted them from my phone. The city has a rapidly changing skyline, and there's a new skyscaper with one curved side toward the western part of Downtown that's very striking, especially when its roof is lit up blue (I think it was) at night, but Commons does not yet have a photo of it or of the skyline including it as a completed building. I believe it's w:Block 185, still described in en.wikipedia as "final completion is expected for Q2 2022." I really have two motives for hoping one or more of you excellent photographers takes on this project: (1) I'd like to replace the 2010 skyline photo on the Wikivoyage article, and (2) this is a city with a striking, unique skyline that deserves a Featured Picture set. I am currently in the process of re-writing the Wikipedia page for the T40/M17 Whizbang (example image inside), but there is only one image of it available on commons. wikt:spænde ben. Based on the usage example at ordnet.dk talking about how it is unsportsmanlike for athletes to do it, intentional tripping may be intended. I saw Category:Tripping but only one of the images really illustrates this action, namely this one, and that is kind of grainy and not of optimal quality (but if nothing better is found, I'd happily use it). Maps of some temple complexes in India

There are several temple complexes in India and many of them prohibit mobile phones or similar electronic equipments inside them. Therefore, I think we should create static maps of them so that people can navigate inside the temple complexes without carrying any electronic devices by printing those maps. While OpenStreetMap is useful to do so, I found only a few temple complexes with details, including Madurai Meenakshi Temple and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam. Other complexes need more details and Kashi Vishwanath Temple is surprisingly almost non-existent in OpenStreetMap. Non-gif format for Images on the Voyager Golden Record

Category:Images on the Voyager Golden Record currently only contain low-quality images in the gif format, which among other things only allow 256 unique colors. Compare https://goldenrecord.org/png/013.png to File:Voyager golden record 13 earth.gif: even though the png has fewer pixels at 477×382, the text edges appear smoother, presumably because no color quantization compromise was done. Similarly, the Principia page https://goldenrecord.org/png/111.png is much more readable than in the gif we have.

The actual images should have all analogue levels, being 512 lines tall. In square pixels, it should be about 639×512 based on goldenrecord.org image size. If someone could find images of that size without significant artifacts, even better. If not, I still think replacing the gifs with GR.org pngs would be an improvement.

I've tried the following sources, but none is better than GR.org:

• I checked JPL website and JPL flickr, but both show significant GIF artifacts.
• Ron Barry has managed a decode from the WAV file of the record, but with noticeable "shadow" artifact.

I'd think the people at GR.org know where to look, but I'm failing to find any contact info.

Heraldry of Kitson, Hunt, or Toll, with fish or boar's heads eyrant

Dictionaries say eyrant is used in heraldry to describe birds as "nesting" or "sitting"... but the only uses of the word in blazons I've found, at wikt:Citations:eyrant, describe fish or a boar's head. This would help Wiktionary determine what eyrant means in those blazons: e.g. is it a heraldic use of errant to mean...what? Is it a weirdly common misspelling of erect? Or of haurient/hauriant? I can't find the images, but I've found two of the blazons as collected much later in Burke's General Armory (1880s, I think) which provides some indirect evidence, I hope:

• Kitson (Hengrave, co. Suffolk). Sa. three lucies hauriant ar. a chief or. Crest-A unicorn's head ar. attired and maned or, environed with palisadoes gold. Another Crest -On a mount or, in flames ppr. a unicorn's head sa. This coat was granted 13 Feb. 1568, by Dethick, Garter, to THOMAS KITSON, Esq., of Hengrave, being an alteration from the coat borne by his ancestors, which was confused, and greatly needed correction. The older coat (granted to THOMAS KITSON, 14 April, 1527) was, sa. three lucies in pale ar. on a chief or, a lion ramp. of the first guttée d'or betw. two pellets, the dexter charged with a martlet, and the sinister with an anchor or.
• Toll (Grewell, co. Hants; long seated in that county; afterwards of Perridge House, co. Devon). Ar. on two bars engr. betw. three escallop shells gu. as many martlets or, on a canton az. a dexter hand in bend of the first. Crest-A boar's head erect.

Burke doesn't use eyrant at all in any of his blazons.

Blackberry

I would like to request SVG vector image files for two logos: the old Blackberry logo from 1999 and the 1996 logo 'Inter@active Pager'. Both of these are on the Fandom Logopedia page but they are pixelated, low res. Both should be valid on Wikimedia Commons as they are simple text/graphics.

The Vengance Tree at the University of Notre Dame (Indiana, United States)

Hi! I'm trying to improve w:en:Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, Notre Dame. As noted on the page nearby the Grotto is an approximately 230-year-old Sycamore tree, and I plan to expand the section to include more information about that tree, and a photo of that tree might be very helpful. The tree is depicted online here, with a picture of a woman leaning against it, but I can't find any freely licensed pictures of the tree online that capture more than its base and part of its trunk.

If anybody would be able to take a ihgh-quality photograph of the full tree, I would be most sincerely thankful.

Shoji Tabuchi Theatre

It would be good to have a photograph of the Shoji Tabuchi Theatre (Q66819369), located in Branson, Missouri, USA. This would be useful to illustrate the Wikipedia article on Shoji Tabuchi, who passed away recently. Apparently the theater has been closed since 2017 when a fire broke out. Although I don't have much understanding in Sanskrit, I can produce most of its sounds, because my native tongue (Bengali) is ultimately derived from Sanskrit. However, the given words are pronounced quite differently in Bengali (/ɡæn/ and /pʰɔl/ respectively, notice the final a's are dropped in pronunciation). Requesting Images of Imams of two holy Mosques. Here you can see the list of current and former imams of each grand Mosque→→ Imams of Masjid al-Haram and Imams of Prophet's Mosque. There are some images of the imams of two holy mosques existing on Wikimedia (eg. of Sudais, Abdulbari ath-Thubaity, Maher Al Mueaqly) but many do not exist. A banner with the photos of all the imams of two holy mosques would work or it would be better to have pictures of each imams.

Former picture in the sanctuary of St. Michael in Aachen (Germany)

From the 1950th. to the 1990th was in the church St. de:St. Michael (Aachen), en:St. Michael's Church, Aachen now Kirche des Erzengels Michael – St. Dimitrios a painting from de:Maria Katzgrau that was lost through the reshaping of the church. No photo of this painting is available yet. I have tried to find this picture in the archives of the city of Aachen, the diocese, the local history society and privately from friends and acquaintances, but so far in vain. So I am hoping for the collective intelligence here. Does anyone have a photo of this picture? It shows the Archangel Michael and is more of a graffiti than a painting. Detroit Industry Murals

These are several frescos painted by Diego Rivera that are located in the Detroit Institute of Arts (see DIA page). They are in the public domain because of publication without copyright notice. Eyeglasses fitting

I'm digitizing a textbook for how to prescribe eyeglasses frames. See the transcription on Wikisource (the text is complete, lacking only images to finish it).

If anyone could upload high-res versions of the illustration from Internet Archive (when it's back up) or elsewhere, it would be really useful; I think this is a semi-automatable task. I am also planning on writing up the topic, with more modern sources, on Wikipedia, and many of the diagrams would be useful there too.

Many of the images up until page 70 of File:California Digital Library (IA mechanicsoffitti00pettrich).pdf would also useful (the rest are mainly obsolete commercial instruments probably illustrated because the manufacturers donated the engravings or something). I'm not digitizing this one; it's nowhere near as useful a text, and is much more outdated than the other despite being more recent. Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Subaru Rioma

Concept car unveiled at the 29th Tokyo Motor Show in 1991, convertible targa top coupe with black paint and red interior.

I cannot find any PD images of this vehicle, the only sources I can find are in magazines and other advertising material. I have Subaru's 29th Tokyo Motor Show magazine, but I obviously cannot use anything from there.

Even if an original photo can't be found, it's also helpful to find other magazines with the car to gather more information. Hello. In the en:Racecourse Ground football stadium in Wrexham, Wales, there's a cafe called the Centenary Club Cafe. According to this BBC article, the cafe has a display of the costume worn by Wrexham AFC player Paul Mullin in the film Deadpool & Wolverine. I think a photo of this display would be very useful for several articles on Wikipedia (such as en:Paul Mullin, en:Deadpool & Wolverine, and en:Wade Wilson (film character)). Conversion of audio file

I am hoping that someone can help me convert the following audio file (Janes walk) from .m4a to .ogg, and also remove a 35-sec delay at the beginning of the file: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hnz84FfwRMJBKxQz5AJkWfhC_Q44Wl-6 The later 32-MB audio file is a 33-minute walking tour of Britannia Village, Ottawa. The converted file could then be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. According to ChatGPT, the Britannia Village audio walking tour will be the first walking tour embedded directly into a Wikipedia article (there are already QR-code initiated walking tours).

Hey hey! A new metro station-based library opened in Warsaw/Warszawa, Poland this week. It's called Metroteka and is part of the Kondratowicza metro station in the Warsaw district of Targówek. You can read more about the library on their website (Polish).

I am translating Garry Hoy recently, but I have a trouble of Hoy's grave - A photo of Find a Grave suggested his Chinese name, but since Find a Grave is unreliable in Wikipedia and cannot upload as non-free resource, I hereby request anyone who lives in Toronto, Canada to take a photo of his grave and upload it to the Commons (or contact R. 1. There's a problem with naming its Chinese entry when I nominated DYK in Chinese Wikipedia. You can see it on its Talk page. I will propose a discussion on it later. But the name, "加里·霍伊", is not that "fake". Have a look at my analysis (In short, some people used it. References: Zhihu, Facebook, and 網易). There are actually people who believe that "the photographic evidence is invalid" because of a source's reliability - You can still believe that it's a stupidity of wikipedia, but listening to them is important.
2. Ah, I hate Freedom of Panorama. And, actually, someone has reverted my insert of the image. You may want to check w:WP:ELPEREN.

English redubs (subtitles would be good too) of various videos of Category:Videos of the Russo-Ukrainian War from 2025. People can't understand what is said in these videos because just very few people, especially on the frontpage, speak Ukrainian. The redubs can be made quite fast as described in the guide at Help:AI video dubbing#SoniTranslate. It works best if you have that free software installed but one can also use the Web UI. We have only an image (and a crop) of the Australian olympic champion Kaylee McKeown (). But they are not good. Maybe somebody with a camera in the next competitions she participates can take a couple of better images. Or somebody knows a site with Open License to import another images. International Footballers

Hey all, I am unsure whether this is the correct forum but I am hoping to have each Records section of every international men's football team display their player with the most appearances and the player with the most goals, much like the Senegalese page.

There are many examples of images that are missing so to list but a few; Raúl Díaz Arce of El Salvador, and the two leaders from Dominican Republic and Malawi. I could go on but I just wanted to check to see whether this kind of request was even feasible!

The current artice on Vertical Integration Building lacks proper pictures. I found some here: https://x.com/NASASpaceflight/status/1607778643949883392 - but those are not from a primary source, and of dubious use criteria. But I feel like the originals should be findable in government sources (especially as we already have one of those three in Commons), or maybe a library on the Cape. Updated version of the Commons brochure

File:Illustrating Wikipedia brochure.pdf is very outdated. Things look very different now. Maybe parts of the text need updates too but the images will be very confusing. The file is used on many pages, including en:Help:Pictures, en:Help:Files and meta:Commons brochure.

Alternatively, the document could be replaced by an entirely new up-to-date document. Note that in that case, the file-uses should also be changed.

On the Commons there are some Swiss road signs that doesn't have the correct SNV font and for example some signs are to redesign to make it real. Bert Convey Wiki Page

Bert Convey (1933-1991) is best known as the handsome host and a frequent panelist on a bevy of television game shows in the 60's, 70', and 80's.

Sadly, he's unrecognizable in the single black and white photo from a one-time acting 1960 appearance on his wiki page where he's depicted looking weathered and stunned and scruffy stunned in a pith helmet, beard and para-military uniform... rather than his curly locks, stellar smile, and usual dapper manner of dress.

Countless full-color photos capturing a better and more up-to-date likeness of Mr. Convey as he should be remembered as his sensational handsome self are available online... and would serve a tremendous and more fitting tribute to this fine gentleman who passed at the early age of 57.

Plus Wikipedia readers are far more likely recognize him as he appeared at the height of his memorable television career.

I'd like to see how we can replace the existing photo with this one that captures Mr. Convey at his very best.

@Alley Ascot: At least as far as anything involving Commons is concerned, you would have to find a public-domain or free-licensed photo from the appropriate period of his life. It's outside the TD Canada Trust Tower, adjacent to the Allen Lambert Galleria (coordinates on Google Maps). @Mateussf I gave it a try, see Category:Beet sugar. I'm an amateur photographer, though, and don't know how to assess image quality, so I took a bunch of photos with my Google Pixel 8 Pro (photos 01-09) and Canon EOS 250D (photos 10-24) and uploaded them all. Feel free to nominate any duplicate-y and low-quality/useless images for deletion (ping me in the DR or link to this statement of mine, which I made on the day of upload, to speedy delete the excess files). If you have any tips regarding camera settings of the Canon EOS 250D to take better photos of the sugar, let me know and I'll give it another go. (Though, note that I don't have any camera/photo equipment beyond the camera (and the kit lense) itself, so, I can't reduce shaking by using a tripod or anything like that.) Nakonana (talk)

Choropleth map that shows number of subscribers of subreddits & state of censorship

A world map that visualizes

• the number of subscribers as well as
• the degree of censorship

of the country's/countries' main subreddit. Lots of subreddits like /r/de are heavily censored arbitrarily by moderators depending for example whether the mods politically disagree with opinions of the user per their comments or just about any other imaginable reason. So I think it would be useful to also see which subreddits heavily suppress reasonably-free speech.

A country usually has realistically just one main subreddit. It's a bit more complicated for countries that do have their own subreddit but speak a language that another subreddit is for – such as Austria with /r/austria and /r/de – maybe these could get some symbol to denote that. The censorship data may need to get collected first but that may not be super difficult and could maybe readily be done online if somebody built this. Countries without that data would only show the coloring representing the number of subscribers. Prototyperspective (talk)

Yes that would be a difficulty there. I suggest the people or person who build this, does create criteria for which level of censorship. So e.g. no significant reports of censorship = 0, too stringent rules = level 1, occasional arbitrary deletion & bans = level 2, systematic or frequent arbitrary deletions & bans due to deviating from the subjective opinion of the mods or some political doctrine = level 3. If there is no external study one can cite for this (and researchers could do this research after reading this file request) then level 1 would be sourced via an archived version of the subreddit with the subreddit rules and the other levels via lists of screenshot-proven examples of deletions & bans that yes somebody would need to aggregate and compile. --Prototyperspective (talk)

I looked through what you linked, no luck. And manual search didn't turn up anything either. So it looks like images will have to be obtained elsewhere. As for where, the list has their users mentioned - so maybe they have something? Seaforces.org has a decent collection on the Mk48 and Mk56, but little attribution info - though it could inform other Wikipedians what to look for.

We don't have a photo of Dr Kaoru Shima. He founded the Shima Hospital in Hiroshima, which was ground zero for the bombing, then re-founded it on the same spot after the war. It would seem strange for there to be no free photo, since he was already fairly famous in Japan by the 1930s, and since the US government documented things in Hiroshima. Photos of Tilly's anti-Putin carnival sculptures

Photos of the moving carnival sculptures of the German artist Jacques Tilly who was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison recently if he was to go to Russia.

There is not much free-licensed art about the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine and these ones are especially notable due to the sentencing and because even without it they were somewhat popular and got reported on. The one on the right (about their sentencing) is the only one on Commons currently.

Mainly the one of Putin bathing in blood and the one of Putin getting a blowjob by the Russian Orthodox Church's Patriarch Kirill of Moscow.

Also, because it is now used at times for exhibitions, it should also be possible to get interior photos.
