Videos about food has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

NSFW blurring
Hi, sorry I haven't been around recently. I made a gadget to blur images based on commons content descriptor wikidata property, as promised. You can test it out by adding mw.loader.load( 'https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Bawolff/nsfw.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript') to meta:Special:MyPage/global.js. . Let me know what you think (ping also @Prototyperspective and @Some1). Bawolff (talk) 22:26, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- Could you post this to Commons:Village pump/Proposals instead? That way we can discuss if it should be an opt-in or opt-out feature and how to best make it accessible for users and anonymous visitors alike@Bawolff: --Trade (talk) 01:21, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
- Bawolff, my findings so far:
- I find an area on the left of the thumbnail where the button highlights but the cursor does not turn into a hand, and clicking does nothing.
- I also got some
Uncaught TypeError: src is undefined parseImageName debugger eval code:131 images debugger eval code:119errors on . - If I click exactly on the "NSFW" text, nothing happens. I have to click slightly outside of it to open MediaViewer.
- I would expect to simply reveal the thumbnail with a single click and open MV if I click the unblurred thumbnail instead of seeing potential NSFW content really big in MV with one click.
- Out of the 100 search results, the last 22 are not blurred.
- As far as I can tell there is no "reveal/obscure all" button.
How do you feel about the way Wikimedia Commons content descriptor (P14416) is being used and the current selection of content descriptors (currently 4) @Alexis Jazz: --Trade (talk) 08:02, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
- Looking at d:Property:P14416 I think the four current descriptors are Sexual acts, Sexualized nudity, erotica or ecchi, Graphic violence, bodily mutilation or corpses and Medical or surgical gore.
Um.. well.. I guess that doesn't cover a person taking a shit.. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 09:10, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
Ok, I put it at Commons:Village_pump/Proposals#Gadget_to_hide_NSFW_images. Bawolff (talk) 20:39, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

Content tagging
I'm curious what you see happening with the content descriptor tagging. Do you really anticipate most images being tagged? I assume your current workflow heavily leans on the category system? One thing I could do is use the models to power a tool to show people candidates for tagging. I think human tagging is a better option, but I'm skeptical the size of the task is doable even medium term. That's why I'm suggesting a new item for AI-assigned descriptors.
You alluded to this being a pressing issue for commons, but I'm not aware of the discourse or the opinion of commons editors. Could you fill me in or link me to a recent discussion? BrokenSegue 17:31, 9 June 2026 (UTC)

Category:Attentat von Volkhoven
Hi Trade, I have reverted your category name to the German category name. This massacre is a proper name since ~ 60 years now. No need for an English category name. I kept the Engish name as category redirect. Raymond (talk) 10:51, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Aren't event categories supposed to go by their English names? There's a reason Category:The Holocaust isn't called Category:The Shoah Trade (talk) 11:48, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Not necessary. "The Holocaust" is a worldwide known term. But this is not valid for a very local massacre. Wikimedia Commons is multilingual and it does not make sense to translate every massacre and event into English. In this local case a Wikidata item and a German Wikipedia article exist so that everyone understand the propper noun in German.
