Category:Point Street Bridge (1972)

Hi! Thanks for creating the subject category, but I believe you meant to create Point Street Bridge (1927)! Let me know if you want me to rename it and recategorize the items.

Also, do you think it's worthwhile to rename File:Point Street Bridge (1872), Providence, RI.jpg to 1907? At the time of the upload, it would have been the only item in a 1907-year category for the bridge. Therefore, I put it in the 1872-year category, as those two bridges were very similar. Yikes, thanks for catching that year typo! I handled the cat-move and associated cat tags.
I do support fixing the year in that other filename. Rhode Island College's information about this item says it's from 1911. DMacks (talk) 05:42, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
Maybe just calling it, "Second Point Street Bridge, Providence, RI" would be better? Otherwise, 1911 might be misinterpreted as the year it was built. Waz8 (talk) 06:09, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
That's a good point, sure. The description could have more details more clearly. DMacks (talk) 06:10, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

You may be an eligible candidate for the U4C election

Greetings,

The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) seeks candidates for the 2026 election. The U4C is the global committee responsible for overseeing enforcement of the Universal Code of Conduct. Elections are held annually, if elected a committee member serves for two years.

This year the U4C requires candidates to hold administrator rights on at least one wiki, which is why you are being contacted as you appear to hold this right. There are other requirements, such as candidates must be at least 18 years old and may not be employed by the Wikimedia Foundation or other related chapters and affiliates. You can find more information in the call for candidates on Meta-wiki. Additionally, the committee's working language is English; some ability to communicate in English is required.

The election opens on 18 May, if you are eligible and interested you have until 10 May to submit your candidacy. There will week between for candidates to answer questions from the community. Voting takes place privately in SecurePoll, successful candidates must receive at least 60% support. More information is available on the 2026 Elections page, including timelines and other candidacy information. If you read over the material and consider yourself qualified, please consider submitting your name to run for the committee. If you think someone else in your community might be interested and qualified, please encourage them to run.

Official portrait of C Joseph Vijay

Hi Dmacks, please check if GODL license applies to this image, File:The official portrait of C Joseph Vijay, the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.jpg. Ganeshk (talk) 07:59, 16 May 2026 (UTC)

Both source-links time out for me. DMacks (talk) 08:25, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
@Shaan Sengupta: were you able to verify that the image is indeed at the cited source and properly identified as nationalized there? DMacks (talk) 05:12, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
@Ganeshk {{GODL-India}} doesn't apply here because this is a work of the Govt of Tamil Nadu, not the Govt of India. @DMacks, this image is present at the cited source but is not nationalized because that thing is limited to books only, not images. I now think I should've just nominated that image back then rather replacing GODL-India with PD-TamilGov. Thank you. Shaan SenguptaTalk 07:25, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
@Shaan Sengupta: , PD-TamilGov does not apply to this image. It was not extracted from a book that has been released into public domain. The image needs to be speedy deleted. Ganeshk (talk) 07:57, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Yes that's what I said above. I tried nominating it for SD thrice, but there was a jammer/blocker active in my area which caused a lot of issues with my internet. Luckily I was able to do it this time. This has been going on for 3-4 days now because of exams nearby. Shaan SenguptaTalk 08:56, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Thanks @Shaan Sengupta: . This won't be end of it. I nominated another version a few days back. Vijay fans will keep coming back. Ganeshk (talk) 09:45, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
If they come back with copyvios, it'll be dealt with once spotted. Shaan SenguptaTalk 12:29, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
@DMacks: @Shaan Sengupta: , since the admin declined to delete a speedy, I have nominated it for deletion. Please add your comments. Commons:Deletion_requests/File:The_official_portrait_of_C_Joseph_Vijay,_the_Chief_Minister_of_Tamilnadu.jpg. Ganeshk (talk) 18:20, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Ok, I've left my comment there. Shaan SenguptaTalk 01:39, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
I am still confused how they were able to find such a high-res image of the CM. The source pictures on the Government website are PNG and low quality. I think they must have saved it from Instagram or X and uploaded it here. My guess. Ganeshk (talk) 08:55, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for everyone's work on this. I see it on a few social-media-like sites. As soon as the DR closes as 'delete', it will be even easier to justify speedy-deletion of the next attempt. DMacks (talk) 21:51, 18 May 2026 (UTC)

Radio Station Logo Removals

There seems to be a misunderstanding here, and remember that I am new so I don’t know everything yet. Go as easy on me as you possibly can.

I uploaded various radio station logos that you flagged—but you’re specifically blaming me and I don’t like it. First of all, most radio station logos do not have permission listed on their logos (check more logos out that are NOT mine.) Check more. Please, it’s not my fault.

I don’t know if you’re a radio person or not, but you do not have a wide understanding on why most of tese logos are uploaded. You’re doing fine, but something’s wrong between the lines.

Honestly, why does everyone on Wikipedia hate me so much? I got 0 thanks—and I’m only trying to help but these people have 0 respect for a new person. Like go easy, it’s not all business and seriousness, you can be casual. I am ready to pick a fight with whoever threatens me next. Central Place (talk) 00:56, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

@DMacks I am VERY sorry for my rather severe comments but I don’t know why everyone else on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons is so mean to me. I just got mad, please forgive me. I won’t pick a fight. I wish I could delete those stupid comments I made—I don’t wanna be the bad one. Central Place (talk) 01:37, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
No worries about how you came across in your comment, I was once new and frustrated while learning too:) Copyright and licensing are among the strictest set of rules on Wikipedia and Commons because of their legal implications for the Wikipedia sites and those who upload files to them. The bottom line is that by Commons policy, in accordance with US and other laws, things we "find on the internet" are almost never free enough to be uploaded here. The three major times they are is when they are very old (copyright expired), very simple (plain text or common geometric shapes, not creative graphics), or the author explicitly includes a free-license note on their site.
Here are some contrasting examples relating to {{PD-textlogo}}:
  • File:Ray’s Corporation (Central Place).png is PD because it's just text, even if it's in a custom or artistic font.
  • File:103.1 The Wolf Long Island.png is not PD because the wolf-paw is clearly a substantive graphical element that is more than just "simple geometric shapes". That part, and therefore the whole logo containing it, are above the creative Threshold of originality ("TOO") and protected by copyright.
  • en:File:Y100.7 WHYI.png is not PD because although it's text, the majority of the text is actually a window into a substantial piece of creative art. Those blue zones, and therefore the whole logo containing it, are above TOO and protected by copyright.
The one exception for content whose license does not permit free upload to commons is "fair use of non-free content", which is when things can be uploaded to enwiki (not Commons) at a limited size and resolution for certain limited uses in specific articles.
It's a lot of rules with all sorts of pitfalls and subtle details. Feel free to ask further. DMacks (talk) 12:15, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
Okay. The Ray’s Corporation logo is private to me as well. It’s a fictional company lol.
@DMacks Okay, so do I move them over to Wikipedia? And delete them on Wikimedia Commons? Central Place (talk) 12:33, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
