Thanks for your feedback on my nominations, File:Ship in the SF Bay fog (40406).jpg and File:Marin Headlands (50849).jpg. My apologies for taking a while to respond to what you said. I've now uploaded new versions of both. For the ship, I can't say I have a lot of experience with color denoising, so I'm not sure if I addressed what you intended? For the other, I did a fairly mild manual defringe of the horizon -- please let me know if it still needs more? Also, I didn't get to the latter before it was archived, so it's now under August 31. I'm a bit confused about your comment concerning effective resolution at QI for File:Maria cloud deck Assateague VA1.jpg. Can you provide a little more context? The image is 5472x3900, and while I did have to adjust exposure and contrast a little (slightly overexposed in the RAW version), I don't see a marked deterioration in quality as a result of the adjustment. My chief concern at the time was salt spray on the filter, as it was very windy and difficult to shield the camera, but it stayed reasonably clean. It may be that conditions at the time, with blowing sand and moisture, and atmospheric turbulence, weren't working in my favor. Acroterion (talk) 01:38, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
Hello @Acroterion: If I look at your picture, I see - in the small version - a picture in beautiful colors, showing a composition, where I instantly wish to stand on that beach and feel the wind in my hair. The problem begins, when I open the picture in full resolution. Unfortunately the details of waves and sand are blotchy and the persons on the right are distorted by the non-linear perspective of your lens. In result of this it is not possible to find any sharp area in the image. So with 'effective resolution' I'm talking about the length of pixels, which are distinguishable in full view of the image. It's a pity that the conditions did not allow you to make the picture you wanted to; but even giving myself a certain tolerance in reviewing pictures I really like, this is definitely off the QI standard. Btw: if you can't follow my reasoning, feel free to move your image to CR by marking it with 'Discuss' instead of 'Decline'. Thanks, that helps a lot, and I appreciate your review. Now that you mention the non-linear perspective, I did adjust the perspective in Photoshop to keep the people from leaning into the picture - it was definitely not an environment in which I would take a tilt-shift lens. I've found that creates artifacts in images with lots of sky, and I see what you're talking about. I always appreciate constructive feedback, and this helps. By the way, the "wind in my hair" was certainly there, but the day before the wind was stronger, visibility was terrible, and I ended up with sand in my upwind ear - and it wasn't even a tropical storm force wind. Acroterion (talk) 01:22, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
How to visit peaks in Jotunheimen and other places in Norway
Hi PtrQs!
You actually don't need to book a tour to those areas, or any of the mountains areas in Norway, because the tourist lodges welkom all skiers, hikers and walkers. So, then in the high seeson, in the utermost consequens, you may have to sleep on a madreass at the livingroom floor. If you dont belive me you can read the artikkel "Den Norske Turistforening" at the german wikipedia.
Even if this mountain peeks looks dramatic on this picture, many of them is not so difficult to explore, espesialy at sommertime. You can see how the group I was with, managed it, see illustration.
Steep groove up against the Storebjørn
If you are are a well experienced cross country skier you can book the tour with thise toure: www.dntoslo.no/aktiviteter/91279/848404/ or some of the others arranged trips with volenter guids. But be awere that the trip up to the peak is not so likely to happend, becose it is not part of the program. It was actualy done becose I convinced the guides that I did know the spesial climbing rute (on the picture). But if you're lucky you can get a leader who knows this unusual way up.

Das Stativ und die Kamera sind sichtbar - aber dank der Verwendung eines Teles (135mm) und der Verkleinerung des konvexen Spiegels kaum sichtbar. Man sieht in der Vollansicht in der Türmitte die schrägen Beine des Stativs und darüber als kleinen schwarzen Kreis die Frontlinse. Da ich an diesem Tag eigentlich die Magnolien im Gutspark photographieren wollte, hatte ich den Funkauslöser nicht dabei und musste mit Zeitauslöser und einem kleinen Sprint arbeiten, um nicht selbst auf dem Bild zu erscheinen;-) Viel Glück bei den nächsten Versuchen! --PtrQs (talk) 21:40, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Isn't there a more conventional solution? --Milseburg 20:22, 4 December 2024 (UTC) This project started as a documentation for the discussion about the probable misspelling of the artists name (I?ervard), carved into the waistbelt of the tunica (Signatur). Taking this picture I saw many details never shown before on any image (like the golden stars on the sleeves) and started taking 45 detailed shots of the whole sculpture. From technical view probably there is no need to increase the current size of 148 MB with further redundant white background. And from my personal view the design of the stitched black frame definitely doesn't conflict with the object in it's pose and proportion. bald ist es soweit: Vom 1. bis zum 30. September 2025 findet zum 15. Mal der internationale Wettbewerb Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM) statt. Dabei können Bau-, Boden- und Kulturdenkmale fotografiert und die Fotos hochgeladen werden. Du hast an einem der vergangenen Fotowettbewerbe teilgenommen. Deshalb laden wir dich gern wieder ein, dieses Jahr mitzumachen. Wir freuen uns auf deine Fotos!
Vergangenes Jahr hat GPSLeo mit dem Verladeturm Oderhafen Groß Neuendorf während eines Hochwassers gewonnen. Welcher Fotograf oder welche Fotografin tritt dieses Jahr die Nachfolge an?
Nach WLM 2024 sind wieder zahlreiche neue Denkmallisten entstanden – zum Beispiel in Greiz in Thüringen oder in Königslutter am Elm in Niedersachsen. Nachdem es in Thüringen über lange Zeit nicht überall Kulturdenkmallisten gab, ist dieses Bundesland jetzt fast vollständig abgedeckt und die Listen freuen sich über Fotos. Hier findest du einen Einstieg in die Thüringer Listen.
Für die Suche nach Motiven gibt es bei Wikipedia zahlreiche Listen und Karten. Als Einstieg hilft diese Übersichtsseite. Weitere Informationen erhältst du auf der Mitmach-Seite.
Für das einfache Auffinden haben wir eine Upload-Karte erstellt, in der viele aber leider noch nicht alle Kulturdenkmale angezeigt werden können. Das Laden der Objekte dauert dort etwas.
Außerdem laden wir Dich ein, ab Anfang September 2025 an der Vorjury teilzunehmen. Diese bewertet die hochgeladenen Bilder und ermittelt so gemeinsam mit der Jury, die Anfang November tagen wird, die Sieger von Wiki Loves Monuments 2025 in Deutschland. Das Vorjurytool ist hier bald freigeschaltet. Du benötigst dafür nur deinen Benutzernamen und das Passwort.

Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:

I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
