Oltenian dialect

The Oltenian dialect (Romanian: subdialectul/graiul oltenescCategory:Articles containing Romanian-language text) is a dialect of the Romanian language spoken in the region of Oltenia, in Romania. Regionalisms from Oltenia include cloțăCategory:Articles containing Romanian-language text (găinăCategory:Articles containing Romanian-language text in standard Romanian, "chicken"), oichiCategory:Articles containing Romanian-language text (ochiCategory:Articles containing Romanian-language text, "eye") and a străfigaCategory:Articles containing Romanian-language text (a strănutaCategory:Articles containing Romanian-language text, "to sneeze").[1] A well-known particularity of the Oltenian dialect is the widespread usage of the simple perfect (perfectul simpluCategory:Articles containing Romanian-language text) verb form for both past and present actions.[2] Oltenian is also spoken in the Timok Valley by the Timok Vlachs of Serbia and Bulgaria.
