From Middle EnglishCategory:English terms derived from Middle English#ABLATE ablat (“taken away”), from LatinCategory:English terms derived from Latin#ABLATE ablātus, past participle of auferō (“to remove”), see -ate (verb-forming suffix). First attested in the 1500s, it became obsolete by the early 1600s.[1] Returned into use as a back-formation from ablationCategory:English back-formations#ABLATE.
