Etymology
From an earlier *rrësye, rendered as masculine arsye (definite singular arseu, indefinite plural arsenje) in Buzuku and feminine arrësye in Budi; from LatinCategory:Albanian terms borrowed from Latin#ARSYECategory:Albanian terms derived from Latin#ARSYE ratiōnem (“reason”). Latin ō > Albanian e is regular in older borrowings, developing into -ye when followed by a syllabic consonant. The initial a- is prothetic.[1][2] Alternatively, a borrowing from Vulgar LatinCategory:Albanian terms borrowed from Vulgar Latin#ARSYECategory:Albanian terms derived from Vulgar Latin#ARSYE *arratiōnis from the same Latin source.[3]
