Nişanyan points out that it is akin to Karakhanid [script needed]Category:Requests for native script for Karakhanid terms#UMUT (umunç, “desire, hope”), [script needed]Category:Requests for native script for Karakhanid terms#UMUT (umdu, “desire”), Old Uyghur [script needed]Category:Requests for native script for Old Uyghur terms#UMUT (umuɣ, “desire”), which are all derived from Proto-Turkic *um-.[3] Equivalent to um- (“to hope”) + -utCategory:Turkish terms suffixed with -ıt#UMUT.
