Issue: please don't delete pdf pages

Hi, a change of File:Mamiani - Teorica della religione e dello stato, 1868.pdf by User:YannBot, i.e. deleting pages 1 and 2, removing Google Books disclaimer, caused a complete misalignement of nsPage text and images into itwikisource. Alignement has been restored adding two empty pages at the beginning of pdf file; the alternative could be to move all derived pages and fizxing lots of links.

Please consider that issue when editing a multipage nsFile, if wikisource transcription is ongoing or completed. Thanks! Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 12:33, 22 May 2026 (UTC)

@Alex brollo: Hi, When a file is used, it is supposed to replace the cover pages instead of deleting them, to keep the alignement (example: File:TheDailyPrayerBook.pdf). Until now (after more than 20,000 files), it has worked very well. So, sorry that's a bug. If you encounter any more such files, please tell me, I will correct the issue. @Alex brollo: FYI, I have researched the source of the problem. It seems that Wikimedia API incorrectly reports file usage on Wikisource. But so far, it is still reports correct usage in most cases. I recently came across Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Sarah Bellia, which lists hundresds of violations of COM:NETCOPYVIOs which has been plaguing a lot of articles I edit. Commons Photographers: Our next meeting (05/2026)

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I hope you’re well and enjoy your time as a photographer on Wikimedia Commons. In my role of the new chair of the user group, I have a couple of updates to share with you.

After the election, the new board met for the first time on March 21 and immediately got to work. We elected the organization’s officers and decided to move from quarterly to monthly board meetings. We believe meeting more frequently will create more opportunities to serve our members effectively and help move the group forward.

We also successfully applied for a pre-conference at the upcoming Wikimania in Paris (July 21–25). If you’re planning to attend the conference, please consider joining us on July 21th for a day full of conversations about photography and Commons. Please sign up here if you’re interested.

And finally, it’s my pleasure to invite you to our first online meeting, which will take place on May 31. Our member Wojciech, an experienced concert photographer, will give a talk on photographing orchestras during live performances. I’m especially excited that we’ll have the opportunity to meet online again and am very much looking forward to this event.

User removing speedy tags, vandalism reports

Hi, not sure what to do about this so I figured an admin's talk page would be the best alternative: See Special:Diff/1219650548, removing a report to COM:AIV, and is generally trying to "I don't hear you" out of this. Hello, as you deleted User:Sarah Bellia files

as per Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Sarah Bellia, I am surprised the cropped images such as File:Bianca Belair 042025 (cropped).jpg and File:Tiffy Time 042025 (cropped).jpg and more are not deleted. Hi Yann, I take copyright very seriously but the behaviour of Jcb is disproportionate. He requests the deletion of all my files just because they are from me. Please take a closer look at the matter.

  • Weinfarben.png is a selfmade table.
  • Orangewein mit AP-Nr...jpg is a selfmade photo of a bottle of wine.
  • Zwergplaneten.jpg is a public domain illustration (NASA).
  • Ruth Ellen Maness.jpg is a selfmade photo.
  • 16-9 Format.png is a selfmade illustration.
  • Oranger Wein (cropped).jpg is an excerpt from another file with permission.
  • Dawum Wahltrend.jpg is a public domain illustration (Dawum).
  • Four Colors of wine.png is a selfmade table.
  • Buchhalterisch.ogg is an audio record.
  • Buchhalterisch AT.ogg is an audio record.
  • Scraps 2.jpg is a photo of food.
  • The rest shows fanmade typefaces or simple geometric shapes which are not eligible for copyright alone because they are not original enough.

Comment faire pour conserver la photo de M. Landry?

Elle m'a été fourni par un ancien député qui a eu l'autorisation de la famille d'utiliser la photographie.

C'est une photo gouvernementale qui se retrouve dans les archives de M. Landry à BAnQ et qui n'a pas de droits d'auteurs.

Merci de m'aider.

@Samuel Thérien: Bonjour, Toute photo a automatiquement un droit d'auteur. Il faut une autorisation du détenteur des droits, qui est par défaut le photographe. Si les droits d'auteur ont été transmis, ce qui ne peut avoir lieu que par écrit, il en faudra une preuve. Voyez COM:VRT/fr pour la procédure. Cordialement, Yann (talk) 14:46, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Que faire pour les obtenir si les détenteurs de la photographie ne les ont pas non plus?

@Samuel Thérien: Ce message signifie simplement que la BAnQ ne connaît pas le statut de cette image, simplement parce qu'ils n'ont pas cherché.
Dans la plupart des cas, les bibliothèques ne font pas de recherche sur les droits d'auteur, et ils ne mentionnent que ce qu'ils peuvent savoir avec le peu d'information à leur disposition. Le mieux est de leur demander : d'où vient la photo ; s'ils connaissent l'auteur ; s'ils savent comment le contacter.
La meilleure possibilité serait que la photo soit publiée sous l'une des licences OGL utilisée au Canada (par exemple {{OGL-C}}). Voyez cette page pour plus d'information : Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Canada/fr. Cordialement, Yann (talk) 15:34, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Time to extend a block?

You blocked Successive helper here on commons for 3 months for copyright violations, an action I definitely support in its own right. However, User:Asilvering indef'ed them on enwiki as part of a set of socks (CU-block). So that means there is also multiple types of cross-wiki abuse.
