Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Mir scheint es, wenn Du noch die Uhrzeit wüsstest, würdest Du noch Kategorien machen, zu welcher Sekunde die Fotos gemacht wurden. Ich finde das total unübersichtlich. "Man findet gar nix mehr, ohne sich durch x Kategorien zu klicken." -> Volle Zustimmung! Ja, ich würde auch lieber mal alle Bilder der Kategorie 19xy in Trier sehen. Aber das liegt aus meiner Sicht eindeutig an der nicht hinreichend implementierten Funktion, sich nach Wunsch bereits auf einer höheren Kategorieebene alle Medien direkt anzeigen zu lassen. Das wünsche ich mir schon lange (es gibt zwar eine solche Funktion, die aber nicht richtig funktioniert und niemand findet). Um nochmal auf den konkreten Vorwurf einzugehen: Ich lege Kategorien wie taken on JJJJ-MM-DD aus Konsistenzgründen an. Wenn es sie schon (häufig) gibt, dann hielte ich es für nicht sinnvoll, sie nach Gutdünken mal anzuwenden und mal nicht. P170 (talk) 18:41, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Da sind wir einer Meinung. Ich habe nichts gegen die Kategorien, solange ich auch was im Überblick finde. Bei einem Flugzeug, von dem von einem Modell 500 Stück gebaut wurden, muss ich teilweise dann jede Seriennummer durchgucken, wenn ich ein gutes Bild von dem Ding suche. Furchtbar. Offizierslager Trier

Übrignes gibt es beim IWM noch ein Foto Q 111325 "vermutlich aus Trier" vom Kriegsgefangenenlager . Allderings weiß ich nicht, wo die Holzbaracken gestanden haben sollen, da die ja IM Palastgarten zwischen Kaiserthermen, Landesmuseum, Agnetenkaserne und der Palisade auf Foto File:Allied officers ice skating at the Trier Prisoner of War camp, Germany, in the winter of 1917-1918 (IWM Q 111313).jpg gestanden haben müssten. Da ist nirgendwo Platz. Was meinst Du?
Übrigens habe ich zu dem Lager leider nichts gefunden, außer eine Liste auf de:Wikipedia von den Lagern in Deutschland. In Emil Zenz: "Die Stadt Trier im 20. Jahrhundert" steht dazu leider nix, ebenso hier: . Cobatfor (talk) 06:53, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Stadtansicht von Trier

Hai, beim US Nationalarchiv gibt es ein Foto , was am 26.12.1918 "received" wurde, aber meiner Meinung nach aus den 1900er Jahren stammt. Brüderkirche (1889) und Herz-Jesu (1899) sind drauf, aber keine KW-Brücke. Underwood & Underwood war auch eine Bildagentur. Was meinst Du? Cobatfor (talk) 17:03, 14 February 2025 (UTC)

Hallo, im Volksfreund-Artikel "Qualität nicht mehr gefragt" findet sich der Hinweis, dass sein Bruder Ende der 1920er nach dem frühen Tod von Niko Haas dessen Geschäft übernommen hatte. Konkret hatte ich mir mal 1927 notiert, nur leider die Quelle nicht mitnotiert. Im Stadtarchiv gibt es die Sammlung Nachlass Niko Haas (1927-). Vielleicht hatte ich es auch daher, wobei mich die Position des Bisstrichs wundert. Die Formulierung im o. g. Artikel zeigt aber, dass es mehr als 70 Jahre sind. Bilder von Linienbussen

Guten Morgen, ich hatte das Bild vom 548er Linienbus aus der Kategorie „Kandel“ entfernt, da es schon anderweitig richtig einsortiert war. Gehören Bilder von Bussen in die Hauptkategorie von Gemeinden? Zumal m. W. n. aktuell keine roten Busse in Kandel fahren, ich bin da immer nur mit den hellblauen Bussen unterwegs.

Hi, ich hab das Bild mal mit anderen Fotos abgeglichen: Es ist Kandel, im Hintergrund sieht man das Gebäude Landauer Straße 1 (die angegebenen Koordinaten stimmen also). Da die Lage für das Bild durchaus relevant ist, sollte das Bild auch in eine möglichst präzise Lage-/Ortskategorie einsortiert werden. Wenn man dann entweder nicht weiß, wo genau im Ort das Bild aufgenommen wurde* und/oder die Straßenkategorie fehlt, wäre die Hauptkategorie der Gemeinde in der Tat der richtige Platz dafür. Da wir nun wissen, dass es in der Landauer Straße (genauer gesagt im Übergang zur Hauptstraße) fotografiert wurde, habe ich es dort einsortiert. *Dafür gäbe es allerdings grundsätzlich noch die Kategorie Unidentified locations in XYZ. Ich habe die Entfernung der Kategorie Kandel auch bei den anderen Bildern rückgängig gemacht. Zwar ist hier die Lage teilweise sekundär, aber wenn ein Bild verortet ist, muss m. E. doch die Ortskategorie einfach mit rein. "Dekorative Kunst" bezieht sich indes wohl auf ein Magazin, die Kategorienamen für Nicht-Eigennamen sind in der Regel auf Englisch. Für die Kunstfigur gibt es noch die Kategorie „Sculptures in Kandel (Pfalz)“, da sind noch weitere davon einsortiert.

Aber jetzt mal rein hypothetisch: Wenn ich einen Hundehaufen auf einem Kandeler Gehweg mit Geodaten hochlade und in der Kategorie Kandel einsortiere, dann bleibt der da für immer? Oder was hat eine Tischdeko oder Bilder im (vermutlich) privaten Innenraum mit der Stadt Kandel zu tun, zumal bei den Aufnahmen keine weitere Beschreibung steht. Bzgl. der Kategorien würde ich sagen: Ja, gehört in die Kategorie Kandel, weil der Bezug zur Stadt Kandel dadurch hergestellt wird, dass sich etwas in Kandel befindet. Zum Thema Relevanz: Es gibt auch in Commons Grenzen der Relevanz, aber ich habe mich mit dem Thema hier noch nicht tiefer beschäftigt. Es gibt z. B. die Infoseite Commons:Project_scope/de. Es wäre schon nützlich, mit klaren Regeln arbeiten zu können. Es sind auch schon eigene Bilder von Ruinen z. B. aus der Kategorie „Bad Dürkheim“, „Pfälzerwald“ und „Ruinen“ entfernt worden, obwohl sich die Motive in der Gemarkung Bad Dürkheim und im nördlichen Pfälzerwald befinden. Die Bilder sind zwar in ihrer thematischen Kategorie einsortiert, über die man dann irgendwann hierarchisch zumindest in der Kategorie „Landkreis Bad Dürkheim“ landet, aber man bekommt sie nicht gelistet, wenn man allgemein zu Bad Dürkheim recherchiert. Nach dem gleichen Konzept hatte ich die Kategorie Kandel aus den Bildern entfernt, sie sind ja thematisch schon einsortiert und das Thema ist definitiv nicht „Kandel“ - abgesehen von der Bienen-Skulptur. Aber zu den Kandeler Kunstwerken hätte ich einen Kompromissvorschlag: Ich bin gelegentlich über Unterkategorien mit dem Namen „Arts in ...“ gestolpert. Das wäre doch auch was für Kandel, oder?

Generell ärgert es mich etwas, wenn ich das Gefühl bekomme, daß mir dauernd jemand hinterherarbeiten muss, ob begründet oder nicht. Wenn ich etwas nicht richtig hinbekomme oder das Regelwerk so wachsweich ist, daß ein breiter Interpretationsspielraum besteht, dann lasse ich es bleiben und andere sollen sich um solche Aufgaben kümmern. Ich bin immer noch der Meinung, daß solche – ich bewerte das jetzt mal als Trivialkunst – Medien nichts in der Wurzelkategorie einer Gemeinde zu suchen haben. Hi. Bei den genannten Bildern verhält es sich so, dass das Entfernen der drei Kategorien richtig war, da die Kategorien zu den Objekten ("Schloss Schaudichnichtum"/"Schloss Murrmirnichtviel") u. a. schon in der Kategorie "Ruins in Bad Dürkheim" einsortiert sind, was letztlich alles abdeckt (wenn man den Kategorienbaum hochgeht, gelangt man zu allen drei Kategorien). Wenn man es ganz genau nimmt ist indes die Zuordnung von "Bad Dürkheim" zur Kategorie "Pfälzerwald" insofern nicht ganz richtig, weil es auch Teile von Bad Dürkheim gibt, die nicht im Pfälzerwald liegen. Deinen Ärger kann ich ein Stück weit nachvollziehen, aber ich hoffe, du bleibst dran. Den Vorschlag mit Arts in Kandel finde ich übrigens gut! P170 (talk) 16:21, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
