Danke & Gruß, -- Daniel Mietchen (talk) 04:25, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated page should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators.

GeorgHH • talk 21:26, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Hallo GeorgeHH, this category is not about a Television Series, but as the explanation says "Photo output of the Tour de Ruhr of the European Capital of Culture Ruhrgebiet for the Free Travel-Shirt on 20. February 2010". So it would be nice if you would remove your recent additions and create an own category to fit the Television series. --Wuselig (talk) 11:41, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

--Atalante88 (talk) 08:40, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
Dear Georg,
I got in touch with the Curator of the Ecole Française d'Extrême Orient owner of those Pictures regarding the use of those Pix. Then, I precise that those pix are from the Archives of EFEO.
Those Pix are more than 70 years old and in addition to that, Georges Trouve and Jean Commaille curators of Angkor Conservation are dead for more than 70 years.
Showing their pix allows to illustrate not only the articles of those guys who dedicated their lives to the Angkor Conservation Revival but also the action of EFEO with its Curators of Angkor conservation.
I am at your disposal for further discussion on this topic.
--Atalante88 (talk) 08:44, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
Hello Atalante88, the decisive factor is the name of the photographer and when the photo was taken. the 70 year rule concerns the photographer, not the person who was photographed. if you provide a link to the EFEO page with corresponding information, the license status can be checked. Hi. Thanks for nominating out of scope files for deletion, a number of which i actioned. In future you can tag them for speedy deletion using {{SD|F10}} - that will get it deleted almost immediately and you don't have to open a DR. Thanks once again Gbawden (talk) 15:44, 29 November 2021 (UTC)
Hi Gbawden, thank you very much for your hint. I was not aware that unused personal files can now be speedy deleted. In the future I will use the {{SD}} tags, which of course makes more sense than unnecessarily overloading the deletion request page. Greetings. GeorgHH • talk 16:56, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

GeorgHH • talk 12:01, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

I'm currently categorizing Library of Congress files. I try to use as precise name categories as possible. Many of the file descriptions are incomplete, so I try to identify the people shown - unfortunately not always successful.
Thank you for your offer to help identify, I'll gladly take you up on that. GeorgHH • talk 17:29, 21 March 2023 (UTC)

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2023 voting is open!
2022 Picture of the Year: Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) and Gadwall (Mareca strepera) in Nepal.
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!
Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
