As we step into a new year, we’re happy to invite you to take part in “Your Most Memorable Shot 2025.

Since 2018, photographers from across the Wikimedia community have come together at the beginning of each year to share the photographs that meant the most to them over the past twelve months. Now in its eighth iteration, this tradition continues to be a space for reflection, storytelling, and celebrating meaningful moments through photography.

Whether you are a member of the Commons Photographers User Group or not, you are warmly welcome to participate and invite others too. Every image carries a story, and your perspective helps enrich this collective showcase.

Whenever you’re ready, please select your most cherished photograph from 2025 and share it on the designated page.

The deadline for submissions is 28 February 2026, so we hope you’ll join us before then.

We look forward to discovering the moments that made your year memorable and to continuing this wonderful tradition together.

Followup on old deletion request

Hello. I just stumbled across Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Rt. Hon. Chase W. Marrie and I wanted to let you know that they're at it again... I'm not handy with filing deletion requests on the commons that aren't a speedy, figured you might be able to deal with this. MediaKyle (talk) 19:18, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

✓ Done thanks MediaKyle. FYI, I used Help:VisualFileChange.js to process such cases. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 08:55, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
@MediaKyle: could you take a look at the answers below and help or at least tell me what you think? Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 17:26, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

File deletion

Hello, you know a lot more about uploading photos onto here than I do. All the photos I've uploaded were taken by myself. If I messed up when I uploaded them, please let me know how I can fix that. I uploaded all those images in good faith and because most of them are of more niche, less photographed things/people. Let me know how to right my wrong. Thank you. Rt. Hon. Chase W. Marrie (talk) 22:28, 21 February 2026 (UTC)

@Rt. Hon. Chase W. Marrie: thank you for your answer. Could you upload the original and full size photos? At least for one of them; It would help a lot and prove what you say. Right now, we have very small and altered files which make them look like they were randomly taken from the Internet. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 07:22, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
@VIGNERON This is the unedited, uncut version of the photo I used for Keith White (politician)'s page on Wikipedia; hope this helps. Rt. Hon. Chase W. Marrie (talk) 15:00, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
Thanks Rt. Hon. Chase W. Marrie it's a good step but this file appears to be edited, the EXIF says it comes from Picasa. do you have the true original file? Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 15:12, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
@VIGNERON 100px This is effectively the same photo I took except at a different angle, I'm unsure as to why it says the previous one said it was edited. Hopefully this one will yield different results. Let me know if there's an issues, thank you. Rt. Hon. Chase W. Marrie (talk) 17:19, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
@Rt. Hon. Chase W. Marrie: strange, there is a same problem in the EXIF, do you store your image on Picasa/Google Photos? could you take a file directly from your device? Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 15:41, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
Hello, VIGNERON!
I'm sorry that I didn't respond quickly; I'm in the process of moving houses! I store my photos in my iPhones camera roll, send them via email to my Chromebook, download/screenshot the photos, then upload them to Wikimedia. If they're screenshotted they appear as a ".png". If they're downloaded, they appear as a ".jpg". Thank you.
Rt. Hon. Chase W. Marrie (talk) 17:02, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
Sorry for a late reply jumping in on this, @Rt. Hon. Chase W. Marrie, I see your image upload process is a bit indirect. I would recommend you upload your photos to a free Flickr account and then transfer/upload to Commons from there. You can directly upload the photos from your iPhone using the app instead of email/screenshot and lose all the metadata, which seems to be an issue. You can add a CC0 license to the photos as well. Once on Commons, you can crop out the individual photos using the Croptool. Just a suggestion, might work better in your case? PascalHD (talk) 04:10, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
@VIGNERON, This is the photo I used for the Little Colinet Island page. This time, however, I emailed it to my Chromebook and downloaded it instead of screenshottin. Check it out to see if it looks good! Thank you. Rt. Hon. Chase W. Marrie (talk) 20:51, 1 March 2026 (UTC)

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2025 voting is open!

2024 Picture of the Year:Mundari man polishing the horns of one of his Watusi cows using a mixture of cow urine and ash as a ritualistic and protective practice in a temporary cattle camp in Terekeka, South Sudan.

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just five images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Demande de renommage

Bonjour Vigneron.

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 19:12, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
Décidément je vieillis... Merci et bonne nuit ! Égoïté (talk) 20:11, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!

Hi everyone,

Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.

Here are your top three winning images:

You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results

I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.

Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!

Regards,
ZI Jony
