Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Hallo Goesseln,

eins meiner gerade hochgeladenen Fotos muss gelöscht werden. Da ich hier sehr unerfahren bin, habe ich aus Versehen ein Foto hochgeladen, welches ich nicht selbst gemacht habe. Jetzt habe ich stattdessen das eigene hochgeladen. Wie kann ich das Foto schnelllöschen lassen? Habe versucht einen Kommentar auf die Seite zu schreiben und in die Zus.fassungszeile, weiß aber nicht, ob die Löschung so klappt. Gibt es eine Möglichkeit eine fehlerhafte Hochladung sofort rückgängig zu machen. Schöne Grüße --Anima (talk) 02:28, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Wenn die offizielle Empfehlung Commons:Dateien verschieben dir klar ist, dann kannst du dort nach dem Benutzerrecht "Dateiverschieber" fragen. Wie bekomme ich das

hin? beim hochladeassistent muss ich ein genaues datum eingeben, sonst geht das hochladen nicht, hast Du eine lösung dafür? ich verzweifle da regelmäßig. danke! --Donna Gedenk (talk) 12:20, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

ich wüsste nicht, dass beim Hochladen ein "genaues" Datum eingegeben werden muss, irgendein Jahr täte es auch, nur ist das Datum, an dem das Objekt aus dem Internet gefischt wurde, denkbar schlecht und könnte im Falle ohnehin bei Quelle angegeben werden.

eigentlich geht es aber um das Entstehungsdatum der Abbildung:

wann hat Schaarwächter das Foto gemacht?

da Schaarwächter pd-old-70 ist, ist das Datum aber für das Urheberrecht ziemlich unwichtig

für die Vita von Rosa Sucher könnte es interessant sein, wenn das mal ein Leser wissen will.

für Vorlagenexperten gibt es unter c:Category:Time, date and calendar templates eine breite Auswahl, zum Beispiel auch die Vorlage c:Template:Complex date, dann sähe das so aus:

Hallo Goesseln, Du hast bei meinen Foto vom Hussmannplatz in Fürstenberg die PD-old-70-Vorlage ergänzt. Das Foto ist aber erst sieben Jahre alt und der Fotograf lebt bislang noch ;-) Natürlich kann sich ein nachdenkender Mensch selbst überlegen, dass der Fotograf eines Digitalfotos noch nicht 70 Jahre tot sein kann und überlegen, dass sich die Vorlage nur auf das abgebildete Werk beziehen kann, trotzdem halte ich das für falsch. Die Vorlage sollte mE so gestaltet werden, dass sie sich eindeutig auf das abgebildete Werk und nicht auf das Foto bezieht. So kann ich das derzeit nicht erkennen. Es könnte ja z.B. auch jemand einen Bot bauen, der PD-ausgezeichnete Bilder von Commons irgendwo automatisch verwendet. --Dehio (talk) 08:56, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

no, I got only this one page from a german library (scanningwork was not done by me) as an example of the original. The article de:Sonderfahndungsliste G.B. was done bei user zsasz and he was very much and repeatedly critized by me for taking the english translation-transscript with many many faults. But that was on the web, the original is only in a handful of libraries. So much work and effort so badly done. Sad that. --Goesseln (talk) 13:45, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

Val di Fassa Dolomites Belvedere Marmolada ... mit dem Gletscher an der Punta Rocca von der Seite (2019)

Vielleicht ein oder mehrere Bildausschnitte für Marmolata oder die Gletscherforschung, Vorher-Nachher-Vergleiche etc., schon eine ungewöhnliche Wölbung, und wer weiss, was da noch alles auftaut oder abrutscht? Auf dem Foto wären auch Delba (it: Alba) mit dem Avisio im Tal, das Skigebiet am Monte Becce mit Aussicht auf Marmolada und Serauta, Undici und Dodici in hervorragender Tieffenschärfe mit drauf. Gespaltener Fels

Hallo Goesseln, danke für Deine Abänderungen. Der Gespaltener Fels wird beim Landesamt für Geologie, Rohstoffe und Bergbau, sowie auch im Daten- und Kartendienst der LUBW als Gespaltener Felsen angegeben. Vermutlich ist das ein Fehler, bin mir aber nicht sicher. Dann müsste die Category namentlich abgeändert werden. Grüße Olga Ernst (talk) 20:31, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

das ist auch nicht so richtig wichtig, unsere Lemma- und Kategoriennamen müssen ja nicht "stimmen", dem Leser und interessierten Kategorienauswerter ist auch so geholfen.

Etwas anderes sind die Kategorien am Schafberg, das ist auch so "weites Feld". Ich habe mal angefangen, das irgendwie hierarchisch zu ordnen, aber habe auch alsbald aufgegeben...

Und dann hatte ich seinerzeit meine drei Knipsbilder fälschlich dem/der Lochen "zugelemmat", das müsste ich eigentlich ändern - zum Verschieben fehlen mir aber die Commons-Rechte.

Hallo Goesseln,

du hast die Dateibeschreibung aus der Quelle mont-valerien.fr übernommen: "Lettre de Jacques Decour à son épouse et à sa fille". Der Brief ist allerdings adressiert an "Madame et Monsieur Decourdemanche" und beginnt mit "mes chers parents", ist also offenbar an die Eltern gerichtet. Erst auf der Rückseite (Jacques Decours 20.jpg) folgt der Brief an die Tochter Brigitte. Sollten wir das also nicht lieber zu "Lettre à ses parents et sa fille" korrigieren?

Es gibt tatsächlich zwei Angaben auf dem Buchrücken:

zu Rob Ehle kann man googlen. Er hat selbst fotografiert und er hat Buchcover entworfen.

Das Foto kann ich bei Commons nicht finden. Es ist nicht aus dem Auschwitz-Album. Wie bei knapp 60 Einwohnern von Vyšný Komárnik so ein Foto zustande kommt, ist auch ein Rätsel. Vyšný Komárnik wird bei Segal im Index nicht erwähnt. Da das Buch von Segal sich ja eigentlich mit Ruthenien befasst, ist ohnehin die Frage, weshalb er auf diesen Ort rekurriert.

Kanadisches Copyright

Hallo Goesseln; um es auch noch hier kurz anzusprechen, nach meinem Revert bei Lawren Harris: Kanada hatte bis Ende 2022 eine Schutzfrist von nur 50 Jahren nach dem Tode des Urhebers. Bei der Anhebung auf 70 Jahre per Ende Dezember 2022 wurde, wenn wir der Darstellung unter Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Canada folgen können, der Schutz von Werken mit nach altem Recht bereits abgelaufener Frist nicht wiederhergestellt. D.h. dass Werke mit Herkunftsland Kanada, deren Urheber spätestens 1971 gestorben ist, in Kanada gemeinfrei sind und damit nach den Commons-Regeln hier verbleiben können, vorausgesetzt, sie sind auch in den USA frei (was im Einzelfall tricky sein kann, wie du weisst). Ob wir solche Werke dann auch in der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia zeigen können (wird der Schutzfristenvergleich mit Kanada angewandt? Hi Goesseln. I noticed that a deletion request you made was not done correctly.

This is not the first time you've made this mistake; when you get this wrong, it creates a fair amount of work for other people to clean it up. Please do try to get this right in the future.

There are several steps to making a deletion request (DR) correctly; among other things you must transclude the deletion into the correct daily DR list, and to notify the page creator and optionally other human (non-bot) editors of the page. By far the easiest way to do all of this correctly is to use the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests, which takes care of all that using vetted Javascript. If you prefer to add the {{Delete}} template or {{Category for discussion}} template manually, you are required to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed). Again, though, there is no need to follow complex instructions if you use the automatic tools.

Also worth knowing: on Commons, {{Delete}} is not a "speedy delete" request like it is on many other projects; instead, it starts a discussion of whether the file should be deleted. If you think a particular media file really obviously does not belong on Commons, see the instructions at Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. Common cases that are better handled with a speedy delete than a DR include:

own work within 7 days (COM:CSD#G7)
empty category never likely to be used (COM:CSD#C2).

Common bad reasons people have for making DRs in the first place include:

after renaming a category, trying to delete the resulting redirect in violation of policy COM:CATRED
making a DR for a file where there is already a current DR
trying to delete one's own work within 7 days (use {{G7}} instead)
placing {{Delete}} on the deletion subpage itself, or on a talk page.

Also, please don't use {{Ffd}} (that's an English Wikipedia thing).
