You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.
Dear Vermont,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.
What happens to you, with all due respect, because you want to erase my image if it is with a creative commons license, look in the description of the video.--Werxa (talk) 21:25, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
@Werxa: Yes, I did check the description of the video. It says "No se permite bajar videos de este canal, Copyright Dulce Osuna. Suscríbete a mi canal para recibir "Lo mejor del Cine y Entretenimiento con Vida y Estilo". Visita HolaHollywood.com by Dulce Osuna." This states that it is copyrighted, and thus you cannot screenshot it and add it to Wikimedia Commons. Vermont (talk) 21:28, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
@Vermont: So if you have copyright, because you put it with a free license--Werxa (talk) 21:31, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
@Vermont: I tell you if the video is copyrighted, why you have a free license and note that it was posted by the same creator of the channel--Werxa (talk) 21:34, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
@Vermont: Look below and there he says he has a creative commons license.--Werxa (talk) 21:35, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
See my comment in the section below this one. Vermont (talk) 21:36, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
check once more
Check the video again and look at the bottom that has a creative commons license and it's the same person who owns the channel who put that license, so keep that message--Werxa (talk) 21:30, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
You are correct. But, as it seems they're contradicting themselves, it's best to assume that it is copyrighted (which they say) rather than that it is under Creative Commons reuse allowed (which they also say). Vermont (talk) 21:33, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
Pinging @Polarlys: who deleted the file. They're more experienced and will be able to resolve this more effectively. Vermont (talk) 21:34, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
@Vermont: I tell you I have looked at the description that you can not download videos from that channel, but again my question is whether it is true that you are protected by copyright, why you have a free license, there with that license you are giving the permission of use your video, now if you had a standard license there if you could sue me for copyright violations.--Werxa (talk) 21:42, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

How I arrived at Simple
I prefer to keep stuff on-wiki unless it's confidentional, so I'll explain here.
I stumbled upon this question. Someone cropped the image by overwriting it in March. On 28 October, the photographer reverted this overwrite. On Commons, we respect that. If the photographer prefers that, any modified version should be uploaded as a new file. But I agreed that the image is more useful when cropped, so I uploaded a crop as a new file. After that I replaced all uses with the new cropped version.
In similar ways I have accumulated some edits on wikis in Japanese, Chinese, Persian, Norwegian, Finnish, French and many others. So this probably doesn't really help to find new editors. When I think simple English, I think Up-goer Five. - Alexis Jazzping plz 20:19, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
Side note: there is also this template (the numbers for this case: {{CSS image crop|Image = filename.jpg|bSize = 300|cWidth = 220|cHeight = 100|oTop = 73|oLeft = 35|Description = description}}), but I don't want to get further involved in the matter. - Alexis Jazzping plz 20:42, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying. () Vermont (talk) 21:47, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

Please do not delete File:Alternate History (No Atatürk) - Flags map 2018.png. I don't see a viable reason to delete this file. It seems a very interesting alternate history, and besides, there are many other maps of alternate histories on Wikimedia. Should we delete those too? My point exactly, this file shouldn't be deleted for some stupid reason. --98.183.198.113 04:25, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
I understand that all the addendum I've made on the George Goldie page have been removed because 2 pictures are from a website dédicated to him.
Is it possible to put all the infos back except these 2 pics, as all the other pics belongs to me?
Zearchitect01, no. It is not under a license we can use; a lot of the text was copied as well. You can re-add text given that you wrote it yourself. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 14:16, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated contents should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I was about to nominate the file for deletion as a copyvio (scan/photograph of a book published in ~2011), when I noticed the tag you had placed on the page on 27 Jan 2020. Can you please confirm if the map has since then been properly licensed for free-use, or whether it needs to be deleted from Commons? Thanks. Abecedare (talk) 16:40, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Abecedare, the map has not been confirmed to be licensed under the stated license. No evidence has been obtained that the file is anything more than a photograph of a map the uploader found, but did not create. Best regards, Vermont (talk) 17:18, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for that confirmation. I am not surprised since the skew and page-curvature visible in the image shows that it was produced by someone scanning/photographing a physical copy of the book, and not uploaded by someone who has access to the underlying svg/image file.
So should I nominate the file for deletion, or is there another process to be followed? I ask because the OTRS tag on the page says, "If a valid permission is not provided within 30 days of the first response by an OTRS volunteer, this file will be deleted. Please do not file an additional deletion nomination for permission reasons." Cheers. Abecedare (talk) 17:30, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Abecedare: You could tag it for a copyright violation, not necessarily a nomination for deletion, and wait for an admin to get around to it. However, I'm going to see if there's any admins on IRC at the moment to get it speedily resolved. Best regards, Vermont (talk) 17:36, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
I see that it has been handled by ~riley. Thanks to both of you for the quick responses. Cheers. Abecedare (talk) 17:45, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Anon423, thanks for letting me know! My Meta-Wiki userpage is automatically shown on all projects where I do not have a local userpage. I have fixed the links. Best, Vermont (talk) 00:45, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Just a note, the above is just a customary notification, hope you are not shocked by it, nothing to do with your conduct. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:34, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!
Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
