Inscope loophole

Say on another Wikimedia wiki we have 2 freely licenced les, A & B. As only transclusion is in B. Bs only transclusion is in A. Per COM:INUSE, they should be moved to Commons, as they are transcluded in a page that isnt a user page, a talk page, an inactive sandbox or draft, an automatically generated project, an explicitly noninscope project, or a project only edited by the creator. Couldnt a bad actor abuse this to get any le they want onto Commons? ANOTHERWlKlPEDlAN wɑit thɑts ɑ typo 20:59, 18 May 2026 (UTC) ANOTHERWlKlPEDlAN wɑit thɑts ɑ typo 20:59, 18 May 2026 (UTC)

It's not exactly a loophole, it's the reason we exist. Can this be used in bad faith? Yes. Is this used in bad faith sometimes? Yes. Do they tend to last that long? Not really. If the file is under fair use, then it should stay on the local project. Copyright will always overrule SCOPE. (also, if it's only used in a draft that's about to get deleted for advertising or vandalism, it will get deleted here too. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 21:25, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
@Alachuckthebuck: I was more so talking about a person abusing this method to upload freely licensed personal les, as obviously copyrighted media is still copyrighted.

Also, in addition to the issue @Pigsonthewing found, there's 10 difference templates saying it's under a noncommercial license. this isn't a scope issue , it's a copyright issue. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 22:10, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
@Alachuckthebuck: There is also 1 template saying its under a free licence, which means it can be kept (see COM:Multi-licensing). But my question still stands though; Couldn’t a bad actor transclude a freely licensed personal photo in a freely licensed personal photo to get it onto Commons?

@Anohthterwikipedian: Please take a look at COM:NOTUSED, "bad actor" is likely leading to "not legitimately in use". Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 02:59, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
I think a more reasonable set of questions would be: Why, if you are not trying to be disruptive:
  1. are you posting as User:Anohthterwikipedian when that account was renamed in March to User:Star walker?
  2. are you using as an example an image uploaded by your account, without revealing that it is yours?
  3. have you uploaded what purports to be an April 2026 image with a v1.0 CC licence which has been deprecated for new uses for over two decades?
  4. Have you tagged the image with being under multiple, redundant licences?
-- Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:10, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
@Pigsonthewing:
  1. I forgot to change my signature due to laziness. Ive changed it now.
  2. It was only meant to be an example of a le being transcluded in another le (for nondisruptive reasons), not of someone abusing this to get it onto Commons.
  3. Just because its been deprecated doesnt mean it cant have new uses, and for personal reasons I cant disclose why I licensed it that way.
  4. I multilicensed the work so it can be used in noncommercial settings.

"personal reasons I can’t disclose why I licensed it that way" won't wash.
I didn't ask why you multi‐licensed the work; I asked why you did so with redundant licences. In any case the first, open, licence allows its use in non‐commercial settings. You have been here long enough to know this.
You have now amended the name in your sig; but made it pale yellow on white, which makes it unreadable for many. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:15, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

@Pigsonthewing: I thought that Sharealike was a viral licence, meaning that a file licensed with it could not be used in non‐commercial settings?
Star
Walker 21:00, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
@Pigsonthewing: And as to why I licensed it under the CC-SA-1.0 licence, it’s because I don’t want nor need attribution for my work, but I do want any further derivatives of it be equally free. Because CC-BY-SA requires attribution and CC-0 allows non-free derivatives, the only licence that works is CC-SA-1.0.

Ive just realised that by moving both les here, the les would no longer be hosted on their original wiki, meaning we can technically delete them as out of scope after uploading them. Basically, the loophole is counteracted by another loophole. ANOTHERWlKlPEDlAN wɑit thɑts ɑ typo 09:38, 20 May 2026 (UTC)

A 20 May 2026 website update caused the "switch file" buttons to dissapear

So I'm kinda autoconfirmed on Wiki Commons, but haven't published any pictures yet, and I'm South American, so I will try to keep it consistent while uploading. I like navigating through random images, but at some point, the directional buttons that are used to switch between files are gone. Why? - SimpleObjects-9ei (talk) 00:23, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

@SimpleObjects-9ei: I've been on the site for 2 decades, but I'm not sure what you mean by "directional buttons that are used to switch between files", unless you are talking about the "slideshow" (which appears to be working as it should). I'm not aware of any "directional buttons" related to Special:Random/File. Can you give some more context here? - Jmabel ! talk 02:15, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
No idea what caused it, but this sounds like a glitch I was experiencing in Media Viewer for the past week or so (here on category pages and in enWP articles): no previous- & next-image arrows or ##/## counter shown. I found a sort of workaround: going into full-screen mode would make them appear, allowing navigation from then on in the session (even after exiting full-screen), but the counter did not refresh. Anyway, it cleared up for me just a day or two ago.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 00:57, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

How to clear Wikipedia edit summary history?

Hello, when I add an image to a page on Wikipedia, that is, when I make an edit and click the Publish button, it asks me to enter an edit summary, which I do. However, previously written edit summaries appear again in this field. How can I delete these old summaries? These are not stored in browser cookies. EDCrasher (talk) 15:18, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

@EDCrasher that's your browser remembering that, and it depends on which browser. But generally when you reset the cookies for the website, it will also throw away that memory. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 11:09, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
I reset the cookies, and I even tried a different browser, but it still didn’t get deleted. EDCrasher (talk) 11:13, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
In at least some browsers, you can press the down arrow ↓ or alt+down arrow button in the edit summary field to select the first saved edit summary, then press shift+delete to delete one saved edit description, then either repeat pressing shift+delete until you delete them all, or selectively pick which saved edit description you want to keep or delete.
In Firefox, you can either press ctrl+shift+del, or go into Settings → Privacy & Security → Browser Privacy → History and press the Clear History button, then select only Saved form info, to delete saved form entries. However, this is not selective to a particular website, such as Wikipedia, but applies to all websites, so it might not be what you want.
b_jonas 08:23, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
Dear @B jonas,
This information is not stored in the browser; it is stored in my account. Likewise, when I log in from my phone, the summaries I previously wrote also appear there. EDCrasher (talk) 08:32, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Multilingual galleries

Hello, I am looking for the best way to create multilingual galleries where all images have multiple descriptions and visitors can choose their preferred language. The language select feature would provide an easy solution for it, but I could not find the right template to create the file descriptions inside the galleries. The goal would be that 1) only one language is visible and 2) the language name is not indicated before the content. I tried the {{Multilingual description}} template, but this one displays in front of each text the language name. I tried the {{LangSwitch}} template, but this one does not work with the language select feature, but fixed to the selected surface language of the user. Do I really need to use the Translate extension for this purpose? Thank you for your advice! Samat (talk) 20:43, 23 May 2026 (UTC)

I'm not sure there's a good answer to this. I vaguely remember maybe some sort of option to remove the language prefix, but I have no idea where I saw it (maybe something to do with Lua modules???). You could try to make your own template, if you're handy.
Personally, I used langswitch for Skagensmalerne, and MLD for Vulpes vulpes#Miscellaneous. Neither of the solutions are perfect. LetmeEditit (talk) 15:07, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

Crazy captcha

Before I was able to submit an entry just now, I was presented a weird kind of captcha with twelve blurry images and the task to check some of them for certain criteria. Some of the images I could hardly tell what they were supposed to depict, but the worst was the task. Since I am writing from Germany, I was given the task in German. I am a native German speaker with a university degree, so I do believe I speak a bit of German. The task was this:

"Wählen Sie alle Gegenstände aus, die zum Abprallen von Oberflächen gedacht sind."

What on earth is this sentence supposed to mean? Who produces this kind of sentence? And even if I come up with a faint idea of what it might be meant to say, how am I supposed to solve this captcha if I can't even tell what half the images are supposed to depict?

Most captchas have a button to open a new one if the current one doesn't work. Yes, there was such a button. And the same captcha kept coming up again and again.

BTW, has anyone given a thought to accessibility around here? I did not see the choice of an audio captcha. If I can hardly do it, how are visually impaired people supposed to solve such a ridiculous puzzle? --~2026-27914-20 (talk) 20:59, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

@2026-27914-20: That's pretty awful. I assume you made it through, since you are writing here. I'm guessing they wanted you to select things like rubber balls or such.
Usually if you fail one Captcha it just gives you another. Did that not happen?
Also: there is not much we can do for you about this on the Help desk. Maybe COM:Village pump/Technical, but I'd make a strong guess that this is entirely outside of Commons purview and is a Wikimedia Foundation-level issue. - Jmabel ! talk 21:16, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
Comment, regarding the accessibility issue, according to mw:Product Safety and Integrity/Anti-abuse signals/hCaptcha#How hCaptcha works, it appears there is a text-based challenge for users with accessibility needs. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 21:29, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
~2026-27914-20, Wählen Sie alle Gegenstände aus, die zum Abprallen von Oberflächen gedacht sind."
Select all the objects that are designed to bounce off of surfaces. My German is poor and I needed to look up some words, but I do understand it. There were presumably images of things like category:bouncy balls, category:space hoppers and w:Flex-Foot Cheetahs. Maybe category:tennis balls and category:clappers.
I just tried to register an account in an incognito tab, but I wasn't presented any captcha. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 22:49, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
@Alexis Jazz: Now that you give me the English, it makes sense immediately. Which means to say: The German sentence is probably an unidiomatic literal translation from English that doesn't make much sense in German.
@Jmabel: Yes, it did give me another captcha. With exactly the same instructions and the same assortment of images. Yes, I eventually made it through at third try or so, but if you don't really understand what the sentence is trying to say PLUS you can't tell what half the images are supposed to be, it's just really annoying.
@Tvpuppy: Not sure if there was a text-based challenge. I only knew the audio up to now, and looked for that as an alternative. --~2026-27914-20 (talk) 11:56, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

uploading photos

May I upload photos which I have in archive as the legacy after my father? Eduardpetrovsky (talk) 10:09, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

@Eduardpetrovsky Assuming these pictures aren't so old they are in the public domain, do you mean that your father is the photographer and you inherited them? If so, Commons:Guidelines for heirs licensing inherited works had guidance. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:43, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
Many thanks. My father was the photographer, the pictures were taken in 1962-63 in Antarctica. He took tens of pictures. I scanned them and inherited after my father passed away. Eduardpetrovsky (talk) 12:54, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
@Eduardpetrovsky: if you are a single child and no spouse remains that could be a joint heir, then you are normally fully within your rights to do as you please with that inheritance, similar to media that you produced yourself. Follow the hints on the page Gråbergs Gråa Sång linked above, prepare a scan of a document that demonstrates you as heir (to be eventually sent to COM:VRT, should that need arise). Slight caveat: you said that these photographs were made in Antarctica in the 1960's. Back then, there were barely any tourism or private ventures to travel to the region, most humans sent there were so on orders from official state agencies. It could be that official photographs from governmental expeditions have a copyright that resides not with the actual photographer, but within the agency behind the expedition. Just do a quick check about the circumstances of those shots, please! Historical imagery of Antarctica should be very valuable for us, the projects and research in general and most welcome, especially if the circumstances of the shots (location, date) can be documented! Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 15:55, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
If the photos were never previously published, I wouldn't worry much about the VRT side and proving you are the heir. If you are the sole inheritor of the intellectual property right for these images, then uploading these with (say) {{Cc-by-sa-4.0-heirs}} really doesn't raise any more issues than uploading your own previously unpublished work with {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}}. Yes, an issue about proving identity and provenance could' arise, but not much more so than if he had uploaded the same images himself during his lifetime. - Jmabel ! talk 03:13, 30 May 2026 (UTC)

Hello there, i`m trying to change this file "File:Svwaldhof.svg" as it is not the correct crest of the SV Waldhof Mannheim. But i´m new to wikimedia commons and am not allowed to do it. I already uploaded the correct one under the file name "File:SV Waldhof Mannheim Wappen.png". As you may see it is just a small change but still a coorect one. Hallo @SV Waldhof Mannheim 07:
Photos from an old railway.

I seen photos I want to use for an article here and here one is from 1892 or 134 years old and the other was taken between 1891 and 1896 as that is when the streetcar was running. Would these photos fall under fair use due to their age? Wobs100 (talk) 22:27, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

It does say "copyright" on the bottom by the way. Wobs100 (talk) 22:30, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
I think you're conflating "fair use" with "public domain". We never accept fair use, but we do accept works that are in the public domain because of age. Do you know what countries these pictures are from, and when did the authors die? HyperAnd [talk] 22:42, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Hmm, this may fall under {{PD-US-expired}}, because this photo might be published before January 1st 1931, but if it was never published, it falls under {{PD-US-unpublished}} because it was created before 1906. HyperAnd [talk] 23:00, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
The streetcar itself is seen here but I couldn't find the other one elsewhere. Wobs100 (talk) 23:38, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
The other one was copied by Clowes Studio so it is published? Wobs100 (talk) 23:51, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
@Wobs100: Given the markings on the left-hand photo, it was certainly published, and presumably well before 1931, so {{PD-US-expired}} is a very safe bet. I'd probably venture the same for the other, the with slightly less confidence: this is in an era where there were very few amateur photographers, and it is unlikely that someone took such a picture for any reason other than publication. There are only two ways it could still be in copyright: (1) first publication 1931-1962, copyright formalities complied with, copyright renewed 28 years later (very unlikely); (2) first publication 1963-2002, copyright formalities complied with. There is some non-trivial chance of that last scenario. - Jmabel ! talk 03:43, 30 May 2026 (UTC)

Hi is this in the public domain i saw an lower quality version of this uploaded in Wikimedia and marked as an public domain  Preceding unsigned comment added by AMPLECONCH (talk  contribs) 11:05, 30 May 2026 (UTC)

@AMPLECONCH: can you indicate where that is? Keep in mind, the performance can have a copyright separate from that of the composition. Your source does not offer a license, and says, "No se pretende infringir los derechos de autor (que sólo al autor pertenecen), sino dar a conocer al mundo entero estas muy antiguas grabaciones," which certainly does not sound like something the actual rights-holder would say, nor like something you would say if the recording is in the public domain. 1963 is not "muy antiguo" in copyright terms: most 1963 works remain copyrighted. - Jmabel ! talk 14:31, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
Thisis what I’m talking about AMPLECONCH (talk) 14:34, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
@AMPLECONCH: that has an unclear source (just sourcing to YouTube might as well be "I found it online") and very questionable PD claim. The justification given is, "Legal or regulatory provisions and the drafts thereof, judgements of jurisdictional bodies and acts, resolutions, discussions and rulings of public bodies, and official translations of all such texts, shall not be subject of 'intellectual property'." A recording of a piece of music is not any of the sorts of things listed there. Even if the score of the music might have that status, I don't see how a recording can. I'll be nominating that for deletion. - Jmabel ! talk 22:52, 30 May 2026 (UTC)

Request for help adding Structured Data to File:Robert Woeger official media headshot.jpg - blocked by abuse filter

Hello,

I am assisting with improving the Structured Data on the following file to get rid of the "missing SDC copyright status" error:

File:

I attempted to add the following statements myself, but my edits are being blocked by the abuse filter.

Requested Structured Data statements:

  • P6216 (copyright status) → copyrighted (Q50423863)
  • P275 (copyright license) → Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (Q18199165)
  • P170 (creator) → Robert Woeger (Q139937665)

The file is already correctly licensed with {{CC BY-SA 4.0}} in the wikitext.

For additional licensing confirmation, see: https://robertwoeger.com/robert-woeger-media-kit/

Could a helpful editor please add these Structured Data statements? I would greatly appreciate your assistance.

Thank you very much for your help!

Okay to upload image from Flickr?

I'm looking for images of roller compacted concrete, but cannot find a decent one in Commons. However, I found this one on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/savidgefamily/8596916842/in/album-72157633103509467 That page says the license is CC BY-NC 2.0. Can I manually upload this image, provided that I give full credit to the author, and provide the Flickr origin website? Noleander (talk) 20:32, 30 May 2026 (UTC)

@Noleander: sorry, the -NC is a deal-breaker.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 20:41, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. Noleander (talk) 20:42, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
@Noleander: I was on my way out the door earlier, hence the laconic reply. More generally, many Flickr “Some rights reserved” files are indeed OK here; I believe they’re usually under the CC BY 2.0 licence. (Another forbidden suffix is -ND; see COM:LIC.) For further “due diligence”, do some browsing in the Flickr account to see if the images are reasonably consistent in style, subjects, equipment used, descriptions &c.: if they’re very heterogenous it’s likely the user collected them from elsewhere and doesn’t actually have the right to license them. This practice is known as “flickrwashing” and is unfortunately rather common.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 21:41, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
Got it, thanks. I need to learn the "SA" vs "NC" vs "NA" vs "ND" abbreviations. Clearly, "SA" is best for Commons, so I'll hunt for those. Thanks for taking the time to help! Noleander (talk) 21:54, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
No problem! Among CC licences, an easy rule of thumb is that anything with an N in it is a No here. We suggest that users choose -SA for their own work, but it’s not necessary. You can add it to derivative works you create from a BY original, but derivatives of a BY-SA original must always keep that condition.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 22:30, 30 May 2026 (UTC)

Adding Images of Satellite Slates - PBS Satellite Service

For a while, I've been wanting to add a couple images of PBS's various satellite services to the PBS Satellite Service page to help get a few points across about the services. These are just test patterns that have the service name, though some have on-screen scheduling information. I don't believe something like this can be copyrighted, but I wanted to ask anyway. An example is here. PBS921 (talk) 23:27, 30 May 2026 (UTC)

@PBS921: that is certainly below the threshold of originality in the United States, so {{PD-ineligible}}. By the way, copyright questions are usually better asked at COM:VP/C. - Jmabel ! talk 02:16, 31 May 2026 (UTC)

Search in Wikidata for "Alaia Gaztelumendi Mendarte". You will find d:Q111736801. Go to "Andere sites" (or probably "Other sites" in English). When you press on edit you will see "Wiki'. Start typing "commons" and you will see Commons. Type on the right of it "Category:Alaia Gaztelumendi Mendarte" and then publish. I did not fill it in so can do it yourself. I have seen that on the other place where "Alaia Gaztelumendi Mendarte" has to be added it has already been done. Wouter (talk) 12:40, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

Strange Plate photos

I have just uploaded two photos relating to the engraver Robert Strange and a plate he made to print banknotes in 1746. It looks as if the text and explanation has become confused about the two images. How can I delete the files so I can start again? Thanks Ronaldcameron (talk) 19:50, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

@Ronaldcameron: deletion shouldn’t be necessary; anything on the file page can be edited. Can you be more specific about the problem? Uploader not same person as the photo author?

I want to use image File:Japan, construction of a dam.jpg in English WP article Dam. The image uploader is User:Mr.Nostalgic. The image page says the photo author is "Marie-Sophie Mejan" (no Commons account). I want to make sure this image will pass the WP Featured Article process... but I'm not sure the image data demonstrates that the author gave permission. I posted a query on the uplaoder's Talk page here: User_talk:Mr.Nostalgic#Licensing_of_image_from_Japan? But the uploader is not very active. Can a Commons expert give me their opinion on if the licensing information is sufficient? In other words: does the image data show that the author provided a license? Noleander (talk) 01:05, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Looks to be an unusual case. We have lots of images in Category:Photographs by Marie-Sophie Mejan. (quick search...) User_talk:Mr.Nostalgic/Archive (search for name Marie-Sophie Mejan on that page, especially relevant the second instance). So permission ticket seems to be on file. This should probably be clearer, perhaps with explanation at the Photographs by Marie-Sophie Mejan category page, but seems to be in order. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 02:27, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
@Infrogmation - I'm not very familiar with permission tickets. You're saying that because some of the images by that author have the ticket, we can extrapolate and assume that the uploader and the author are acquaintances, and therefore the permission ticket applies to all the images in that category? How do i change the logo of my company with a much improved image on our Wikipedia page Tegfcu-1commerce (talk) 13:16, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

@Tegfcu-1commerce:
  1. While the first thing I'm going to mention here is not Commons' concern: editing the English-language Wikipedia (en-wiki) with a company name as your user name is against their rules. See en:WP:ORGNAME. Also, it looks like you have not complied with their required paid-contribution disclosure: en:WP:PAID. I strongly suggest that you deal with this (including changing your account name) if you plan to make any further edits on en-wiki, or they are very likely to block your account.
  2. The old logo currently shown at en:TEG Federal Credit Union is probably complicated enough that it has a copyright; the same is true for the new one I see at https://www.tegfcu.com/. That means that unless your company wishes to offer a free license for the logo (unlikely) we cannot have it on Commons at all. Uploading a new logo to replace the old one would be entirely a matter within en-wiki and does not involve Commons.
  3. If you look at en:File:TEGfcu_logo.jpg, you'll see a filled-out template justifying en-wiki's use of the non-free logo on a "fair user" basis (something Commons doesn't do). I'm honestly not certain if en-wiki would prefer that someone just overwrite the old logo there with the new one using "Upload a new version of this file" on that page (which would immediately place it in the article, and where the justification would be the same) or to upload a new page just like that but with a distinct filename (e.g. en:File:TEGfcu_logo-2026.jpg) and then edit the article to reference the new logo rather than the old one. You would do better to ask that on en-wiki instead of Commons, but first deal with the user name and the disclosure of paid editing, because you are currently in violation of their rules.
I hope that helps. And I hope you understand that with the first item here and the last remark, I'm not being harsh, just trying to help you stay out of trouble. - Jmabel ! talk 20:31, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

Do dead animals count as NSFW?

I keep coming across images of dead animals, some of which are pretty shocking (decomposition etc). I think under Commons:Principle of least astonishment, they should only be in categories for dead animals, and not in any other categories. Is this right? LetmeEditit (talk) 15:42, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

Just stumbled across another one right after I wrote this... I don't want to see that. LetmeEditit (talk) 15:45, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
It's a little trickier than just "dead" or "alive"—I don't think anyone would be shocked by an image of a taxidermically stuffed fox—but certainly that should not be directly in Category:Vulpes vulpes. - Jmabel ! talk 20:35, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

User:Summerslam2022

Much like the Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Sarah Bellia, I wanted to make a mass deletion appeal for User:Summerslam2022. However, I am not eligible for that, but I have requested and successfully deleted countless uploads by them manually, you can look at their talk page. The user has a deep history of stealing images from fan social media and screenshots from fan YouTube videos. It is becoming increasingly difficult for me to find all the upload sources. Could someone block the user and delete all the uploader images here, since it is very clear the user steals content. Also, the user has an alt account, already known at their user page. Could you please help me sort this out? Perhaps the images should be deleted from Commons and uploaded to Wikipedia instead?

--Gr.wiki (talk) 11:27, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

I've found this file and one of users noticed me, that it has (c) logo at the right top corner. According to the upload log and the nickname of the user – it's the author uploaded this file. Is it ok:

  • That own work uploaded such way, I mean if there any additional proof of authorship is required or not?
  • That presumably free foto under CC license contains (c) logo and authors name and signature? Or it can be stated, that it's a "wholistic" artwork that contains also a authors logo and it's ok.

Реддингтон (talk) 11:36, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

My guess would be that, at the very least, some sort of formal verification of the file's copyright license might be a good idea. Users uploading content to Commons occasionally choose a user name that is the name of whatever/whoever created the content they're uploading. So, it's possible that the uploader Atyukin is the same as the person/company mentioned in the copyright notice, but there could be no connection at all. The file, though, isn't being used anywhere (at least not by any WMF projects), and it's the only file that seems to have been uploaded by that particular account; so, regardless of it's copyright status, it might not even meet COM:SCOPE. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:54, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
This question I asked because I used it at one article at Russian Wikipedia, but it was deleted from it exactly because it has copyright. I want to return this image back to this article, that's why I'm actually asking. Реддингтон (talk) 12:43, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
