NNW 06:42, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.
Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!
2023 Picture of the Year: Incense plays an important role in Vietnamese life. It is considered as a sacred bridge to connect the visible life of human beings and the world of heaven, earth, and gods. Photo taken in Quang Phu Cau village, on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam. In this picture, incense sticks are being set out to dry, after being dipped in the incense solution.
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Can you correct the description so: "description= A photographic portrait of Kazue Tomimoto (1893-1966), feminist writer and activist."? Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.61.87.223 (talk) 15:58, 23 September 2025 (UTC)

@Jmabel, and also to Mateus2019: This IP user was also blocked yesterday, see COM:ANU#IP vandal User:193.207.178.219. I think that there are reasons that those files are protected, if I’m looking at the mass of rename requests above. The IP user should read Commons:File renaming#reasons once more. I can’t find any reason to rename most of the files above. Especially the reasons 1 and 3 to 6 don’t apply to all of the requests. Also, the names mostly aren’t ambiguous for rename reason2, maybe except File:Letzel 1913.png. And if some of them are meaningless, is at least questionable. The persons on the files seem to be correct identified and not misspelled, therefore there is no good reason to rename most of the files. But the user did not even give any rename reason number or a valid reason for every of the rename requests. Then I don’t see, why anyone should rename them. Especially not, if the user has been blocked often in the past.
In addition, Category:Yo Takai is no file at all, it’s a different procedure to rename a category than a file. It’s wrong in this file list. This IP has just been blocked two times because of speedyrequests for special character category redirects which are useful because most users haven’t keyboards with such Japanese transcription characters as ō, and bots can move automatically misplaced files from such redirects to the target names. The user also made such a request on Rachmat04’s talk page, and yesterday on Túrelio’s talk page different ones. And they should better read the file rename rules once more, but I doubt they does that. Thanks to Achim. —176.1.2.134 08:08, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
Can you rename them anyway, so it's definitely closed? Thank you very much. 79.20.13.71 08:34, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
I won’t make requests for those files above, because I’m not convinced of that. Please don’t edit anymore here now and please don’t make any speedy requests for redirects without those Japanese transcription characters. Thank you for that. And please take the time of your block now to read the file rename rules once more and think about your requests above once more afterwards. That could help. —176.1.2.134 10:16, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
Prolific sockpuppeteer GMatteotti (talk·contribs) creates various requests under various IP-s. They mostly touch Japanese and Italian photos. Please do not fulfill the requests. You can read en:Wikipedia:DENY. Taivo (talk) 14:12, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Mir schwebt so etwas wie "palaces and castles..." oder "forts and castles ... " vor. LG aus München-Haidhausen! --Mateus2019 (talk) 05:49, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
Cities with irrelevant images
Please do not open galleries of Iranian cities any more, you're inserting irrelevant images which are not even inside the particular city, therefore confusing uploaders and other users. Additionally, the descriptions are often wrong, incomplete, or meaningless, and the galleries themselves are a total mess or/and tiny. You are doing damage to our Wiki project Iran and in the future I will simply redirect them to a properly organized category. Categories with detailed infoboxes are enough. Thank you for your understanding. --Orijentolog (talk) 00:19, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
I need examples, otherwise this comment is worthless. Mostly, the files for my gallery pages are picked from en.wp 1-1 (a place of high standard and quality content-wise). Yes, most pages are imcomplete because THIS IS A PROJECT going to be perfect in some decades. Irrelevant images in gallery pages are very rare. --Mateus2019 (talk) 02:58, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
You saw examples well in reverts. Nope, en.wp is far from "a place of high standard." For example, in the article about en:Sari, Iran they use images of Resket Tower (which you also used in gallery) and Miyansheh Lake, both tens of kilometers outside of the city. If you opened those two Commons categories, you would see where both are actually located, in both infobox and parent categories. Commons is a place of far higher standard because over 10,000 of buildings and places are organized strictly by administrative units. It is the product of many years of my hard work here, therefore I'm not accepting chaos with misleading images. On Wikipedia, they use irrelevant outsider images with the aim of promoting tourism or embellishing the article. Here that's not the case. Regarding the redirects, I already upgraded some of the galleries you opened, like Kish, Iran & Laft, and I can do the same with the rest. Now galleries are indeed useful with precise descriptions & links, not superficial, tiny and with vague descriptions (like putting "building" or "street" under the image). That's what I can do as a friendly help, I'll just need time for the rest. --Orijentolog (talk) 07:38, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
Terrible teamwork, you can delete single images but not destroy (redir overwrite) whole gallery pages. Do it better. You didnt manage to create them in the past. As I said the images and their descriptions are taken from en.wp. I cannot judge over the descriptive texts because I dont know much of that country (and never been there). Do not continue your rude behaviour. I am going to revert your overwritings because it is vandalism. --Mateus2019 (talk) 08:05, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
Take it easy. Of course I can not blame you for not understanding precise locations, even the most experienced members of our Wikiproject Iran make such mistakes (confusing namesake cities, counties, even provinces). Your behavior was rude, insisting on mistakes. Temporary redirects are much better option than keeping tiny galleries with errors, random images and no purpose (see: Commons:Galleries#The benefits of galleries). It takes time and effort to create a good gallery, and your throwing in a handful of photos with vague descriptions tells us that you didn't even bother to look at the image description or the corresponding category. --Orijentolog (talk) 09:44, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
Well that's (upgrading descriptions and later on removing the temporary redirects) a surprising offer. Thanks for that work + time + effort in advance. I am also surprised you have experienced vast incorrect informations and images at the English language Wikipedia (thanks for your explanations). You could be right that people of the hospitality and tourist promotion industry saw a chance to promote their area or human settlement by putting images of the vicinity in theses articles just to make it more interesting (although misplaced of irrelevant). So now we have turned "a bad situation" in a good situation by discussion. That's rare on this project. Good night, --Mateus2019 (talk) 16:41, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi, while checking on ListeriaBot I noticed it was producing frequent large edits of numerous gallery pages (for instance Paintings of Lazarus and Dives). On checking them I noticed that the bot has been in fact adding a copy of each gallery to each page approximately once a week since october the 23rd, which is the date when you edited the presentation of I think all the pages that are affected. Removing {{Wikidata list end}} is probably what caused that, the pages you edited without removing it seem to work quite well Ostrea (talk) 21:05, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
Deine alte Diskussionsseite
LG, --Mateus2019 (talk) 02:15, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.
In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Good evening. Why did you remove Raphael Rooms (Vatican Museums) from the main category of the Vatican Museums, on 25 November? Raphael's Rooms are a cornerstone of the Vatican Museums, a must-see for every visitor. Like the Sistine Chapel, the Raphael Rooms must be included both in the root of the “museums” that make up the Vatican Museums complex and in the list of the latter's “collections”, because in both cases the works on display coincide with the wall paintings that decorate them. Thank you for your attention. Fabrizio Garrisi (talk) 23:11, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
Hello there, it was redundant to category:Frescos in the Vatican Museums. Have a good one, --Mateus2019 (talk)
No, Mateus2019, there is no over-categorisation. Please note that the roots of the Vatican Museums' categorisation start from the page Category:Vatican Museums which first lists what the museum management classifies as its “museums”. From this root, there are two large general categories, “Collections” and “Interiors”, and others with fewer images. The Collections, which I have personally maintained for years, are then divided into seven search categories based on criteria: by museum, by artist, by century, by object type, by place of discovery, and by cultural production area (the “antiquities”). Therefore, you cannot delete a "museum" from the list of museums because the paintings it contains are included in the “by object type” search category (in this specific case, Paintings, or rather the subcategory Frescos). It must be found in all relevant search criteria. There is no over-categorisation, because the “by criteria” search categories each have branches that are separate from the others. And if a user searches for the legendary Raphael Rooms but does not know whether they are painted in fresco or tempera, how could they find this section of the museums? To give another (somewhat silly) example, anyone searching for the ‘Borgia Apartments’ museum must also be able to find it in the search string "by museum", not only in the paintings by Pinturicchio in the Vatican Museums. Thank you for your attention.

Your Dismissal to my File Name Request
Dear Mateus2019, you dismissed my file name request of File:Habilitation Certificate from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.jpg with the justification "not useful to use such abbreviations". While I tend to agree that the abbreviation is not particularly nice, the current name is clearly an error, and (if you do not like the abbreviation) another option would be "Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München" (possibly with the umlauts turned to "ue"s).
See for the respective discussion and justifications on the English Wikipedia. Proof finder (talk) 19:28, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

--Buch-t (talk) 12:39, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
Changing the name of an image to the correct species is of course an improvement. But if corresponding changes on projects using this image specifically for Chaetophractus vellerosus are not initiated, the problem in some ways becomes even worse. I have seen administrators first checking the projects using an image to change the image in a correct one, or at least inform them about the coming change. One of those projects is Commons itself: the image is still in the wrong category. I spend most of my wiki time on WikiWoordenboek, so I changed the image there, I hope you can give your attention to the remaining projects. MarcoSwart (talk) 09:34, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
Hello, you need to discuss this issue with Fernando_Archuby since he made the rq. I am not a biologist. cheerio, --Mateus2019 (talk) 19:09, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
I don't understand the discussion, sorry. FMA (talk) 01:00, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
Hi there
Hello there, i need to point out that the image file File:An Igbo woman wearing Ịchafú ịsị.jpg which you remained to Igbo woman wearing gele 2026 is a cultural misappropriation and cultural erasure. User:Dolpina who suggested this renaming has been targeting this specific cultural group vandalizing descriptions to support her POV. Wmbata (talk) 06:08, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
3 sources were provided but it cannot be read easily (not online) --Mateus2019 (talk) 06:11, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for looking into this, since those 3 sources are offline and cannot be verified, I have provided some online sources for immediate verification.
The correct title ịchafu or ịchafu ịsị, is the correct Igbo name for headdress and headwrars. Changing it to gele (A Yoruba word for the same term) is like overwritting its specific cultural heritage.
Could you please revert the rename back to its original title. Wmbata (talk) 07:59, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
thanks, I will do that soon. Best wishes from Germany, --Mateus2019 (talk) 08:01, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
Thanks. Aside from that particular image, she has also done it to multiple other image files with "ichafu", trying to reduce the whole image to her own culture’s term for a headdress and removing the significant depictions of the image.
