Can you help me on something please?

Heya sorry if it seems like i'm bothering you at a bad time, i'm not. I just need help on something.

Are you free right now? it's okay if not @SDudley ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 10:14, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

what's up? SDudley (talk) 23:12, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
It's related to "King Features Weekly" kinda. @SDudley
I was talking to you about this on Reddit but you were busy, but.. I Saw the thing Jennifer said about the sandwich for Dagwood
However, the resource wasn't used until May 4, 1933: https://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/webbin/cinfo/kingfeatilluswk
so I decided to recheck everything:
https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/11815/pg11815-images.html
https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/11816/pg11816-images.html

https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/11821/pg11821-images.html
Art registrations also show no renewals for the strips of Popeye or Blondie from that date before May 4, 1933. The only Popeye strips that were renewed was his debut strip and the Jan 11th 1930 strip.
But it seems that other than the Spinach, Bluto, and Wimpy strips. As i rechecked, NONE of the Popeye strips from 1930-May 3, 1933 were renewed.
For Blondie, only the first strip was the only one renewed, so here is the original renewal registration:

Is it still okay to upload some strips to Wikimedia that are before that date and weren't renewed? I rechecked everything and the only Blondie strip that was renewed was the first one i listed above, so i think as long as it's before May 4, 1933 (when Weekly began to renew those strips.)
@999real said it was okay, so just wanted to get clarification. ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 23:58, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
if you feel like you checked it all you can upload to commons. I don't need to give approval lol. At worst the items will get another check by other users and if they find things then more discussions can happen. Appreciate the commitment you have :) SDudley (talk) 00:59, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
Okie lol,
Keep up good work btw Sean. You're the best!
Also thanks for helping me on the Clifford research btw months ago. Lol @SDudley ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 01:00, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
no problem! you look into interesting corners of things. beyond my capacity.
I also go by Sterling now. Thanks, SDudley (talk) 01:05, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
Okay Sterling, lol. ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 01:16, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

Oz Book Covers

Thanks for the tips a few months ago, re: the Oz book covers I uploaded. I was thinking of updating the book cover image for https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ruth_Plumly_Thompson_-_The_Yellow_Knight_of_Oz_(page_1_crop).jpg with a new scan that didn't crop off the T in "KNIGHT". Should I upload a new image at that link, or upload a totally new file as its own thing, and just change the Wikipedia book article image to display my new file? Mupept (talk) 01:09, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

Upload a new version of the file on the existing file. It will auto update on Wikipedia :) SDudley (talk) 01:10, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

I responded to the Happy Ddan situatoin

Heya Sterling, sorry for ping at a bad time but i doubt Happy Dan was renewed and i did give out a reason why. It is a percuilar case to be exact. @SDudley ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 17:26, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

About Dumbo

Heya @SDudley, I was wondering if you already know about the case with Dumbo since while the 1939 book was unpublished, it was registered in the office but not renewed. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dumbo_(1939).pdf

I already told Jennifer about it, but wanted to make sure if you already know about it since it makes a unique case in Dumbo's copyright status making the book's copyright effectively based on the book and not the movie. The character as depicted in the book (by it's surviving text) is public domain, but not yet the Disney version. It's okay if not.

I was gonna work on a reconstruction of the Roll-A-Book using the surviving galleys and illustrations and release it here under CC0 as a printable but i can't find the original patents of Roll-A-Books. ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 20:41, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2025 voting is open!

2024 Picture of the Year:Mundari man polishing the horns of one of his Watusi cows using a mixture of cow urine and ash as a ritualistic and protective practice in a temporary cattle camp in Terekeka, South Sudan.

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just five images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Why I’m using a Alt,

Heya Sdudley, yes this is ZigZag, sorry for using an alt. I’m currently out of town in real life and I do suffer from DID just to let you know.

I was gonna return to work on the page and add the info only pre-May 1933 are public domain for features but I was disrupted by discord and all and having to handle family issues.

I had trouble logging into my account so yeah, and I’m trying to hide from the subreddit and Reddit in general because I have bad memories on that website and it almost made me sucidial. I am okay. Just currently waiting to get home. I was trying to help you on the KFS weekly thing but I was delayed and only slightly edited pages to mention it. @SDudley ~2026-27084-58 (talk) 20:17, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

Is anything okay? ~2026-27084-58 (talk) 20:49, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
yeah things are ok. I understand. No worries. SDudley (talk) 20:56, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Okay. ~2026-27084-58 (talk) 20:58, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
One more thing, I didn’t see renewals for early 1933 before may Popeye or Blondie either, and I already did post a text related to syndicate books but somefancyusername reverted it. ~2026-27084-58 (talk) 21:03, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Commons is a collaborative space where consensus sometimes needs to be gathered. I'd direct them to my comment regarding Popeye stuff in the talk page if you want to further litigate that. SDudley (talk) 21:32, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
what does that mean? ~2026-27084-58 (talk) 21:55, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
it means that sometimes we make an edit on our own that someone else might revert. We need to talk it through and come to a final conclusion that can be agreed upon. SDudley (talk) 21:56, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Understandable ~2026-27084-58 (talk) 21:57, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Did I do anything wrong? ~2026-27084-58 (talk) 22:10, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
It is ok. There is just deliberation at play. SDudley (talk) 03:00, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!

Hi everyone,

Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.

Here are your top three winning images:

You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results

I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.

Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!

Regards,
ZI Jony

I saw your post on Archive.org about Tintin, I found a website that should have every original comic in French.

Heya sterling @SDudley, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I saw your post related to Tintin on Archive.org and you did state that the comic archive was lost until the way back machine worked right?

I found a working still active archive of Tintin and Quick and Flupke comics from this website. https://fredcrash.com/bellier/indexsuite.htm

I hope this help you for the future once more of Herge’s world enters the public domain.
