- In practice, RA is usually taken to mean رَضِيَ ٱللهُ عَنْهُ (raḍiya llāhu ʕanhu, “may God be pleased with him”) unless context makes رَحْمَةُ ٱللهِ عَلَيْهِ (raḥmatu llāhi ʕalayhi, “may God have mercy on him”) clear. The latter sense is common in some South Asian English writing but remains ambiguous for many readers.
