Usage notes
Used as a title, the word is usually capitalized and followed by a person’s name, often her surname or full name (as in “Bayan Ayşe Demirel”). This is unlike the more traditional title hanım, which is used after a person’s name, most commonly just her given name (as in “Ayşe Hanım”). Hanım is also significantly more common than bayan.
When used to simply mean woman, the word can be controversial, with certain people perceiving it being used by those who perceive the word kadın (“woman”) as being vulgar or impolite.
Declension

| definite accusative | bayanı | bayanları |
