From Proto-UgricCategory:Hungarian terms inherited from Proto-Ugric#OREGCategory:Hungarian terms derived from Proto-Ugric#OREG *üräŋɜ (“big, old”), whence also Proto-Khanty *ürǝɣ (> Northern Khanty ар (ar, “much, many”)) and Proto-Mansi *ärǝɣ (> Northern Mansi арыг (aryg, “extra, excess”)), derived from Proto-UralicCategory:Hungarian terms derived from Proto-Uralic#OREG *ürä- (“big, old”) (whence Proto-Samoyedic *iräj (“grandfather”)).[1] Alternatively, and less likely, from a TurkicCategory:Hungarian terms derived from Turkic languages#OREG language. Compare Turkish iri, Erzya сыре (sïŕe).
